Marketing is everywhere nowadays. There's no way around it: with social media pervading life at every turn, it's inevitable that companies around the world would use such easy access into people's lives to their advantage. There are literally millions of marketing campaigns today, and they range from funny and clever to stupid and downright offensive.
Then there are campaigns like this, for which there are no words:
Twittersphere: It is I, Skeletor! Now that I have control of Honda’s account, no one is safe! Muaha! #Skeletakeover pic.twitter.com/7DCH2aw9lh
— Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
At first glance, it makes no sense: Skeletor, the villain of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, has taken over the official Honda Twitter account. Yes, Honda - as in the car manufacturer.
.@SamsungMobileUS So this new Samsung phone can control the Galaxy? I’ll take them all, please. #TeamGalaxy #Skeletakeover — Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
.@PeopleMag I demand a recount for #SexiestManAlive #BoneStructure #Skeletakeover pic.twitter.com/qFMFYZTfiG — Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
It has nothing to do with Honda - it doesn't even have anything to do with cars in general. It's completely random, and came out of nowhere...and it's absolutely amazing.
Can anyone tell me how to contact “internet trolls”? They sound like my kinda people. #Skeletakeover — Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
I’m so buying this. #CyberMonday #Skeletakeover pic.twitter.com/qbpbSGLKT8

.@Charmin I didn't realize your comfy bed linens could also be used as currency. I have much to learn. #Skeletakeover pic.twitter.com/WjHVV9GVyl — Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
Just discovered #ManCrushMonday. Here’s a man I’d like to crush! #mcm #Skeletakeover pic.twitter.com/fJf0WeWhv7 — Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
.@BurgerKing Who knew King Randor is now king of burgers? #Doppelganger #WhoWoreItBetter #Skeletakeover pic.twitter.com/76GY9HDTyn — Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
.@Starbucks Skullator? Not bad, Starbucks. Not bad at all. #CallMeSkullator #GingerBreadLatte4Life #Skeletakeover pic.twitter.com/JOYOaDzY2K
— Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
To be honest, there was one about cars:
.@DeadstockNYC @EvilPRGuy there you go. Now, what do I get in return? How about He-Man? #Skeletakeover pic.twitter.com/4TMJtxCVkU — Honda (@Honda) December 1, 2014
Even so...best marketing campaign ever.
