Google's next Pixel-branded phone, tentatively dubbed the Pixel 2, will come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 system-on-a-chip.
Google Pixel 2 to Ship With Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 SoC?
That's according to unnamed industry insiders, although they didn't confirm if both the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL will be powered by the same processor. Recent reports, however, say that there'll be more differences this time between the regular Pixel variant and the larger one, and that might include the processing power department.
However, this new rumor runs in conflict with other previous ones suggesting the Pixel 2 will ship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, as is the case with a lot of smartphones released recently.
True or not, reports say the Snapdragon 836 will only offer an incremental performance upgrade over its predecessor, so it likely wouldn't even matter that much. As Android Headlines notes, it might be akin to how the Snapdragon 821 improved over the Snapdragon 820. The base clock might increase slightly or not at all. The resulting chip might deliver slightly better performance and battery efficiency improvements.
Google Pixel 2 Rumors
Google unveiled its pair of Pixel flagships back in October 2016, so it stands to reason that it will unveil the sequels on a similar period this year. Rumors for both phones already run rampant, with some suggesting squeezable frames, slimmer bezels, and a massive camera lens.
Several alleged renders of both phones have also been surfacing of late, each of them adding to the overall confusion of what the flagships will look like. One concept sees the phone as having a nearly bezel-less display, a thinner glass back panel, and only a single camera. They also come in black, blue, and red colorways.
Specific details about specs are murky, but "leaked" benchmarks last month give an idea of their power. The Pixel 2, according to that benchmark listing, will sport a 4.97-inch Full HD OLED display like the original Pixel. It will allegedly come with a Snapdragon 835 chip, 64 GB of internal storage, and 4 GB of RAM.
The Pixel 2 XL, on the other hand, is believed to sport a 5.99-inch Quad HD OLED display, and that a 128 GB variant will be available. It will come with the same processor and RAM as the Pixel 2's.
As always, it's best to take all these rumors with caution and wait for Google's official world instead. October isn't really that far, anyway.
