Pokémon GO players from all over the world will need to work together to unlock all the secrets of Pokémon GO Fest, which will take place on July 22 in Chicago's Grant Park.
Most players were bummed to find out that the first real-world event for Pokémon GO was only happening in a single location, which meant that not everyone will be able to attend. However, new details released by developer Niantic Labs revealed that Pokémon GO players will not have to be in Chicago to participate in Pokémon GO Fest.
Pokémon GO Fest: A Worldwide Event
In a new post regarding the upcoming events planned for Pokémon GO as part of its first anniversary, Niantic Labs revealed details on what will happen on July 22 at Grant Park.
There will be three Challenge Windows for Phase 1 of the Pokémon GO Fest, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30p.m., all of which will require Pokémon GO players worldwide to work with those who will be present at the event.
During the Challenge Windows, players at Grant Park will unlock bonuses for players worldwide by catching different types of Pokémon: fire-type Pokémon will reward candy, water-type Pokémon will reward experience points, grass-type Pokémon will reward stardust, electric-type Pokémon will reduce egg distance, rocky-type Pokémon will increase buddy distance, and normal-type Pokémon will increase encounter rate.
Meanwhile, Pokémon GO players worldwide will have to catch as many Pokémon as possible to extend the duration of the bonuses that the players at Grant Park will unlock. There will be three reward tiers, with the Bronze tier extending the duration of the bonuses by 24 hours, the Silver tier extending the duration by 48 hours, and the Gold tier unlocking a "Mystery Challenge" in Grant Park.
Achieving the Gold tier and unlocking the Mystery Challenge will open Phase 2, which will have a Challenge Window of 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If the players at Grant Park succeed, they will unlock a Global Reward that will run from July 23 to July 24.
Legendary Pokémon In 'Pokémon GO'
The Mystery Challenge and the Global Reward will likely be the arrival of the first legendary Pokémon to the game, as that has been hinted through various clues discovered by Pokémon GO players.
The original trailer for the mobile game showed two friends working together to take down Mewtwo, who could likely be making his appearance on July 22.
The cooperative nature of Pokémon GO Fest presents an exciting new dimension for the mobile game. Can you imagine a whole park of players working together to defeat one of the franchise's most iconic Pokémon? That sounds like a lot of fun, and something that will keep players hooked to Pokémon GO.
