A new rendered image for the Google Pixel XL 2, based on information acquired from reliable sources, could be our first good look at the upcoming smartphone.
The render follows Pixel XL 2 specifications reported by XDA last month and a concept video uploaded by Concept Creator last week.
Google Pixel XL 2 Render: Here's What It Shows
The render, created by Android Police, shows a smartphone that carries similar themes as its predecessor, but also features multiple departures from the previous design.
The standout difference between the Pixel XL and Pixel XL 2 is the 6-inch AMOLED display of the upcoming smartphone, with far smaller bezels, rounded corners, and a 2:1 aspect ratio. This gives the device a more modern look similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8, but with a flat display and curved glass at the edges. It is rumored to carry an always-on display feature, as well as the whole phone is said to be manufactured by LG, as Google has apparently moved away from HTC.
Compared to the Pixel XL, the Pixel XL 2 has a smaller glass window at the back, with the fingerprint scanner moving from within the windows to below it. Also seen at the back of the render is a massive camera lens. The camera of the Pixel XL is one of its biggest selling points compared to the other smartphones in the market, and the large lens may be a sign that Google is planning to keep it that way but without diving into the dual-lens camera trend.
According to Android Police, the Pixel XL 2 will have a squeezable frame similar to the HTC U11, which will allow users to squeeze the device to interact with certain features, initially with the Google Assistant.
Is The Render Accurate?
Android Police rated the information that it received to create the Google Pixel XL 2 render an eight out of 10 in its confidence scale. This is because the source material that the render is based on may not be the Google Pixel XL 2's final design, with the possibility that there will be changes by the time that smartphone is officially unveiled later this year.
"Still, we are exceptionally confident that this image represents the overall look and feel of Google's new smartphone," Android Police stated.
There are still many questions remaining regarding the Pixel XL 2. What are its internal specifications? When will it be launched? What will be its price tag? The render by Android Police at least gives us a glimpse of how it would look like, and the smartphone appears to be holding great potential.
