LG G6 Plus Debuts With 128 GB Storage, Wireless Charging And More 'Enhanced Features'

LG has officially announced a new version of its flagship smartphone, unveiling the LG G6+ with beefed up specs and "enhanced features."

The LG G6 is considered one of the best Android smartphones currently available on the market, but it gets even better with the LG G6+ variant. The new model is not larger than the existing LG G6, as the name might suggest. Instead, it shares many specifications with the existing flagship and builds upon them to offer a more advanced experience.

LG G6+ Specs

First off, the new LG G6+ supports Qi wireless charging, whereas some versions of the existing model did not. This makes things easier and more convenient, bringing the LG G6+ in line with other rival flagships. Secondly, the LG G6+ also comes with more locker space, boasting 128 GB of native storage space to fit more content.

LG has also announced more color options for the existing LG G6 with 32 GB of storage space. The new LG G6+ comes in Optical Terra Gold, Optical Astro Black, and Optical Marine Blue avatars, and the existing LG G6 gets the Optical Terra Gold and Optical Marine Blue color options as well.

In addition to more storage and wireless charging capabilities, the LG G6+ also features quad DAC audio technology, which was previously available only on Asian versions of the LG G6. Quad DAC significantly improves the audio quality and with the LG G6+, it will finally make it to other markets as well. The new smartphone will also come with "premium" B&O earphones, albeit the company doesn't specify which model.

LG G6 And LG G6+ Update

The company says both the LG G6 and the LG G6+ will get updates at the same time and an update is already on its way, packing several treats including Face Print, which adds motion recognition to the face recognition feature. Motion recognition will enhance the face recognition function, working even when the phone's display is off.

With Face Print, users can simply hold up their phone to their face to unlock it, without needing to press anything. As soon as the device recognizes the authorized face, it will unlock. LG says it takes less than one second. The company also highlights that this feature will not take a toll on battery life, since the camera will only activate when the user raises the phone to their face.

Speaking of battery life, the LG G6 and LG G6+ will also get a Low Power Consumption feature baked into the Snapdragon processor's Hexagon DSP architecture.

Another feature called Covered Lens, meanwhile, will alert users when their finger is covering the camera. Since the LG G6 has a wide-angle lens shooter, it covers a wide field of view and users could end up with a finger in the photo without realizing it, but Covered Lens aims to prevent such mishaps. If a finger makes it into the frame before the shutter kicks in, Covered Lens will issue a notification on the display. It's a minor feature that other smartphones already have, but it should nonetheless help reduce such mishaps.

"LG's G series has always been about offering innovation and technology that we believe will appeal to as many customers as possible," says LG president Juno Cho. "By expanding the G6 lineup with differentiating features and colors, consumers will have even more options to consider when shopping for a new smartphone."

Lastly, the company adds that the exact availability dates for the LG G6+ and the upcoming software update will vary by market. The company has yet to offer pricing details for the LG G6+.
