Asus ZenBook Flip S Debuts As World's Thinnest Convertible At Computex 2017: Specs, Pricing, And Availability

Asus took to Computex 2017 to unveil a number of neat laptops and hybrid devices, including the new ZenBook Flip S — the world's thinnest convertible laptop.

The sleek new Asus ZenBook Flip S is a 13-inch 2-in-1 convertible with an impressively thin and light build, measuring just 0.43 inches (10.9 millimeters) in thickness and tipping the scales at 2.42 pounds (1.1 kilograms). Moreover, the ZenBook Flip S also sports a "NanoEdge," which means minimal bezels around the display.

Asus ZenBook Flip S Design

The device looks great with its tiny footprint, ultra-slim profile, and elegant color schemes. The keyboard is comfortable to type, the touchpad is large enough to navigate with ease and responsive enough to immediately reach to any touch, while the display delivers vivid and crisp visuals.

"ASUS ZenBook Flip S is one of the world's thinnest and lightest convertible laptops, designed for anywhere and everywhere," touts the company. "It combines elegant sophistication with the convenience and versatility of a 360°-flippable display. This ultra-thin, ultra-light convertible is a stylish laptop, a handy tablet — or anything in between."

To make the ZenBook Flip S so thin and light, Asus went for an ultra-thin "liquid-crystal-polymer fan" to cool things down without adding too much bulk.

Asus ZenBook Flip S Specs

The world's thinnest convertible packs Intel Core i5-7200U (2.5 GHz dual-core with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz and 3 MB cache) or Core i7-7500U (2.7 GHz dual-core with Turbo Boost up to 3.5 GHz and 4 MB cache), integrated Intel HD Graphics 620, 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB SSD.

The 2-in-1 ZenBook Flip S sports a 13-inch LED-backlit display with a resolution of either 1,920 x 1,080 pixels or 3,840 x 2,160 pixels (4K UHD) with a 60 GHz refresh rate, Asus Eye Care technology for up to 30 percent less blue light, Gorilla Glass protection, and minimal bezels, allowing for an 80 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Active Stylus Input, Windows 10 S, And Windows Hello

The display also supports active stylus input, making it easy to jot things down, take notes, or make annotations. It doesn't look like an Asus Pen will be bundled with the convertible notebook, however, so customers will likely have to purchase the stylus separately. The company only mentions an Asus Mini dock and a black sleeve as part of the package.

On the software side, the ZenBook Flip S comes with the latest Windows 10 S on board and its side-mounted fingerprint scanner supports Windows Hello, aiming to ensure secure authentication.

When it comes to battery life, Asus says the ZenBook Flip S should last for roughly 11.5 hours on a single charge. Fast-charge technology, meanwhile, allows the laptop to get 60 percent battery life in 49 minutes.

Pricing And Availability

The Asus ZenBook Flip is slated to hit retail in September, just in time for the back-to-school season. The device will start at $1,099, with prices going up depending on options and configuration.

Asus will likely offer more exact details on pricing and availability closer to launch, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
