Surface Pro 4 Update Improves Battery Life
On Thursday, May 25, Microsoft rolled out the firmware update for its Surface Pro 4 2-in-1 device. The Surface Pro 4 firmware update comes inclusive of features such as Intel Precise Touch Device, Surface System Aggregator Firmware, and Surface Integration drivers.
These features were introduced and released in April this year for all Microsoft devices running on Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update). The features are currently available for Windows 10 Version 1511 (November Update) and also Windows 10 Version 1607 (Anniversary Update).
Apart from these inclusions, Microsoft's Surface team also upgraded the drivers for the Surface Touch Servicing ML, Surface Embedded Controller Firmware, Surface UEFI, and Surface Touch.
These drivers were updated to fix screen brightness problems when the device wakes up from the Sleep Mode. Apart from the enhancement in the touch functionality, the Surface Pro 4 firmware update will also improve the brightness settings, adjust the hibernation defaults, make the device more stable to extend battery life during sleep, and disable the touch functionality when the laptop's cover is closed.
Surface Pro 4 Firmware Update: What Does It Bring?
The new Surface Pro 4 update brings a Microsoft driver upgrade for Surface Embedded Controller Firmware (103.1684.256.0), which will enhance the battery capacity of the device while the Surface Pro 4 is on Sleep Mode.
The Intel Corporation driver update for Intel (R) Precise Touch Device with build number 1.2.0.83 is also available for the Surface Pro 4. This update not only enhances the device stability, but also disables the touch functionality when the cover is closed.
The Surface driver update with firmware version 1.0.121.0 for Surface Integration fine-tunes the system's Hibernation defaults. The Microsoft driver update for Surface Touch Servicing ML updates the touch functionality. This system upgrade comes with the version number 1.0.724.0.

"When Surface updates are provided via the Windows Update service, they are delivered in stages to Surface customers. As a result, not every Surface will receive the update at the same time, but the update will be delivered to all devices," Microsoft notes.
A Surface Pro 4 user can download the firmware update from the Microsoft Windows Update page. However, one must ensure that the Surface Pro 4 is running on Windows 10 OS as these drivers and firmware are only compatible with the Windows 10 platform.
