Will Twitter let you edit tweets?

Many Twitter users find themselves in a situation when they realize they should have edited their tweet before publishing it online. Unfortunately, there is currently no way for them to make changes to their tweets and the only option is to delete them.

That's right. You can't change misspellings and wrong information because Twitter does not have a feature that allows users to edit a tweet. This situation could, however, change if what blogger Matthew Keys wrote is true.

According to Keys' article, Twitter is working on a way that will allow users to edit their tweets once they are published online. Citing sources close to the project, Keys says that the feature has been a top priority of the company for months now as it pushes to expand partnership among media organizations and original content producers.

As to how the feature would work, Keys says that once a user publishes a tweet, an "edit" feature will show up for a limited period of time. How long this is, is unknown now, but the user would be able to make slight changes to the content of the tweet around this time such as removing a word, correcting a typo or adding a word or two.

The edit, however, could only be done only once per tweet and once the edit is made, it's final. "Twitter wants users to be able to edit a tweet without changing the overall purpose - in other words, Twitter doesn't want a user to post a news story, accumulate a large amount of re-tweets, and then change the tweet to display a promotion or advertisement," Keys' article says. The edit feature would also show up when a user republishes a tweet using Twitter's "re-tweet" feature.

While an edit feature may indeed be promising, Twitter, apparently has no plans yet to let users edit tweets, according to CNET. "Despite a report to the contrary, sources familiar with the matter told CNET that Twitter is not actively exploring an edit feature," CNET reported.

Shares of Twitter, which recently topped Glassdoor's 2014 list of best tech companies to work for, closed down 0.28 percent at $56.45 on the NYSE on Tuesday.
