If you have been complaining about your Mac because of its buggy Mail app and misbehaving contact groups, here's some good news for you: Apple has released an update to the OS X Mavericks and this provides fixes to several Mail app issues reported by users including Gmail compatibility, search and Smart Mailbox reliability, and more.
On Monday, Apple released its first major update for the Mavericks operating system after months of beta testing. Apple has been working on the update since before the initial release of Mavericks and the OS X 10.9.1 finally brings the much anticipated fix for the operating system's Mail app and system-specific performance and stability enhancements.
OS X Mavericks has had its share of bug reports since its release in October earlier this year and although Apple has released an initial patch for the Mail issues in November, other problems persisted. The update fixes the remaining issues and unlike the earlier Mail patch, the OS X 10.9.1 will install properly even if you're a developer running the Mavericks Gold Master version.
The update focused on the built-in Mail app. It improves support for Gmail in OS X Mail providing fixes for users with custom Gmail settings. It also enhances the reliability of Smart Mailboxes and search in Mail as well as fixes an issue that prevented contact groups from working properly in Mail.
The update also made improvements to Safari 7.0.1 improving form compatibility with common websites and fixing Shared Links and VoiceOver issues. This will improve the behavior of Credit Card autofill, periodically update the "Shared Links" list in the Safari sidebar and fix VoiceOver issues with Facebook.
The update is recommended for everyone who is using OS X. OS X 10.9.1 can be downloaded automatically through the Mac App Store's Updates tab but those who like to install it manually can download the package from Apple's support site.
It is recommended to fully back up before you proceed with updating your system. For this, you can use Apple's Time Machine service or a cloning tool to create a mirror backup of your boot drive.
