Konami released an update for Super Bomberman R for the Nintendo Switch that adds new content and improves the game's frame rate.
The patch, which is the third major one for Super Bomberman R, highlights how Nintendo has made it very easy for developers and publishers to roll out updates for their games on the hybrid console.
Konami Transforms 'Super Bomberman R' Into Must-Have Nintendo Switch Game
The patch notes for the latest Super Bomberman R update leads off with new content coming to the game in the form of four new versus stages and two new types of accessories.
The patch notes vaguely state that the frame rate of the game has been improved, with no specific numbers to back up the claim. The update is said to have increased the frame rate of all multiplayer modes to 60 frames per second from the previous 30 frames per second. Pixel count dropped from 1080p to 720p in docked mode and from 720p to 540p in portable mode, but the lower resolution is not noticeable compared to the performance boost.
Other changes that the patch has implemented to Super Bomberman R include improved Online Battle with less lags when all players have good network connections, strength adjustments for the Five Dastardly Bombers in the game's Story Mode, and easier Beginner and Normal difficulties.
The accumulation of all the changes and improvements for Super Bomberman R have transformed the title into a must-own multiplayer game for the Nintendo Switch.
Konami is not stopping there, though, as it revealed that three classic characters from the developer's games are coming to Super Bomberman R as playable bombers. These are Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, Simon Belmont from Castlevania, and Vic Viper from Gradius. The release date of the characters, as well as whether they will cost money to unlock, is unknown.
Easy Updates For Nintendo Switch Games
The patches that have drastically improved the gameplay of Super Bomberman R was made possible by Nintendo's new stance in making it easy for developers and publishers to roll out updates for Nintendo Switch titles.
Nintendo, which previously made it difficult for updates to be released for games on its consoles, has flipped the script for the Nintendo Switch. Almost all the games currently available on the hybrid console have received at least one patch, with a significant number already having received multiple updates.
The reason behind the turnaround for Nintendo is unclear, but it is said that the company has been actively working to make the certification process for updates faster. This is great news not just to video game developers but also to Nintendo Switch owners.
