The iPhone 8, Apple's upcoming flagship smartphone, is in the news again. Speculations pertaining to the impending handset have been floating online incessantly and tech buffs have several theories on the design of the device.
The iPhone 8 is rumored to incorporate several design changes and include new elements when compared to the earlier iterations. The Cupertino-based company is supposedly removing the home button from the front to increase the display size and reduce bezels.
Fans have been left wondering how Apple plans to incorporate the Touch ID sensor, which was previously housed on the home button itself. Rumors have also pointed to the device sporting an edge-to-edge display. New leaked images, believed to be of the iPhone 8's dummy model, may finally offer some information regarding the impending smartphone's design.
Touch ID Placement
Tipster Benjamin Geskin posted the images of the alleged iPhone 8 prototypes on Twitter. Earlier speculations suggested that the iPhone 8 will either sport an aluminum body or a sandwiched glass design.
However, the latest leak shows the model bearing a stainless steel and glass design, as well as sporting an edge-to-edge display with almost no bezels. Interestingly, the rear panel of the dummy model does not show the Touch ID sensor. This suggests that Apple could incorporate the technology under the display itself. Previous leaked images, however, suggested that the rear panel of the iPhone 8 had a spot reserved for the Touch ID sensor.
Other Design Choices
The front display shown off in the renders reveal a black screen with no bezels, while the earphone slot appears to be located on the top, toward the center. However, the camera design and placement cannot be ascertained from the pictures. The sides of the impending phone appear to have a polished stainless steel finish, much like the iPhone 4.
Volume and mute buttons can be espied on the left hand side, whereas the power switch and the SIM tray are visible to the right. The only notable difference is that the power switch seems to be a little longer than previous versions. Geskin also revealed later that the upcoming device will be 7.1 millimeter thick and will sport the same dimensions as the iPhone 7. The phone will reportedly sport a Space Black finish.
The veracity of the leaked images is circumspect and these renders could very well be one of the prototypes that Apple considered while creating the upcoming smartphone.
