This is now officially "unicorn week." Just days after the Philippines has seen its first live mollusk "unicorn," Starbucks kicks off Frappuccino season with a new mythically inspired drink: the Unicorn Frappuccino.
The chain's latest creation has already stirred quite the excitement among Starbucks fans, and for good reason. Known for its quirky blended drinks, the coffee shop takes the trend of shimmering unicorn-themed drinks to a new level.
"Like its mythical namesake, the Unicorn Frappuccino blended crème comes with a bit of magic," touts the Starbucks Newsroom.
If you're wondering what's so special about this new drink, prepare to be delighted: the new Frappuccino changes both its color and flavor as you stir it up, making for a mysterious and delicious addition to the Starbucks spring beverage menu.
Magical Frappuccino: Color-Shifting And Multi-Flavored
According to the news release, the Unicorn Frappuccino is made with a mango syrup crème, blended with a dusting of sugary pink powder and layered with a nicely contrasting sour blue drizzle.
This means that, unlike coffee-based Frapps, the Unicorn version has zero milligrams of caffeine.
The eye-catching Frappuccino starts out as a purple drink with a sweet and fruity flavor. The beverage is topped-off with vanilla whipped cream and a combination of sweet-sour pink and blue topping.
Once you stir it, the Frappuccino changes color and flavor, transforming into a pink beverage that tastes tangy and tart.
But wait, there's more. As you continue to stir, the flavor keeps on evolving into new surprising tastes, while the color patterns alternate. Just like magic.
Where To Find The Unicorn Frappuccino
If you're feeling adventurous and want to try the new Starbucks' rainbow-looking drink, the company has confirmed the Unicorn Frappuccino is making its way into coffeehouses throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
However, this bold and magically delicious drink will only be available in coffee shops for a short while, as part of a limited-time offer of just five days.
Starbucks announced the Unicorn Frappuccino will make its appearance from April 19 to April 23, while supplies last. This sweet colorful drink is priced at just under $5, depending on the market.
Although "fleeting as a rainbow," the offer promises to make a long-lasting impression.
Worried About Calories?
A 12-ounce tall Unicorn Frappuccino made with whole milk and whipped cream won't make you tip the scales too much — it totals 280 calories and 39 grams of sugar, says Starbucks.
If you don't mind parting with the whipped cream and asking the barista to substitute the whole milk with almond milk, you can reduce the calorie count to 170.
In addition, the almond-milk version of the Unicorn Frappuccino only has 34 grams of sugar.
