Rumors pertaining to the next-gen Apple smartphone, dubbed the iPhone 8 or iPhone X, have been surfacing online frequently.
Now, sketches of the iPhone 8 have leaked on Chinese microblogging site Weibo and are courtesy a tipster called "KK."
KK, who has a decent track record when it comes to leaks, asserts that the crude-looking drawings have been supposedly sketched by one of the Foxconn employees. Foxconn is one of the manufacturers of Apple devices.
iPhone 8: What Do The Leaked Sketches Reveal?
According to the leaked drawings, the antennas are expected to be placed on the corners of iPhone 8. This will be a departure from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which have antennas on the top and bottom of the device.
The leaked drawings also highlight the exclusion of the home button. The sketch shows off the inclusion of the rumored vertical dual-camera set up on the rear of the handset. The drawing also shows the addition of the LED flash and the laser autofocus in the camera setup.
Rumors of the iPhone 8 coming with a vertical camera setup — instead of a horizontal one — have floated online in the past and these drawings reaffirm the same.
While the authenticity of the drawings is circumspect, the sketch shows off an Apple logo on the rear cover of the device. The logo is located below the camera setup and suggests that the drawing is indeed of the next-gen iPhone.
The leaked drawings also depict the bezel-less front display of the next-gen iPhone. According to the leakster, the iPhone 8's metal frame will sport a curvature which bears a semblance to the Apple Watch.
The sketches do not show any front cutouts and the tipster asserts the same. This suggests that the iPhone 8's front-facing camera could be placed behind the device's screen.
The leaked sketches also show no evidence of a physical home button on the front, or back of the impending Apple smartphone. Therefore, it appears that the fingerprint sensor may have been embedded into the screen as asserted by older rumors.
The Weibo post, which has now been removed, also mentioned that the camera capabilities of the iPhone 8 will be top notch. The smartphone may also come with 3D augmented reality support.
iPhone 8: Rumored Specs And Features
The next-gen Apple smartphone is said to boast an OLED screen, instead of LCD, which is 60 percent more expensive than the present displays on the iPhones. This may directly impact the price of the upcoming flagship.
The rumored iPhone 8, which is expected to be released in the second half of 2017, is speculated to be priced below $1,000. A UBS analyst asserted that the iPhone 8 may not hit four figures, as previously speculated.
The anticipated iPhone 8 is expected to come loaded with facial recognition technology, wireless charging, an iris scanner, and more.
