A woman in Texas is suing her neighbor after her four pit bulls managed to enter through a hole in the fence and killed her neighbor's 10-year-old beagle. In a case like this, one would have expected the victim to be the one filing a lawsuit, but this is totally not the case.
The woman in question is Emerald White, and she is suing Steve Baker for $1 million. White is making the move because her dogs attacked Baker's beagle, who goes by the name Bailey. From what we have come to understand, Bailey was around 10-years-old, so he will undoubtedly be missed by Baker and the rest of the family.
According to White, she was viciously attacked by the beagle after she made an attempt to retrieve her dogs. She is claiming that Baker should have put a leash on his dog in the first place to avoid problems such as this.
Interestingly enough, Steve Baker claimed that his friends were telling him to sue White, but he refused after the police declared her dogs as dangerous.
"I couldn't believe it," said Steve Baker, Bailey's owner. "Everyone was telling me to sue her, but I decided not to because it won't bring Bailey back."
"The police took the action I wanted and declared those dogs dangerous and awareness was raised, so I decided to let it go," Baker added. "Now they're suing me for $1 million -- I just can't believe it."
We're not sure what will come of this lawsuit, but it would be a real shame if Baker lost to White. Anything is possible within the American justice system, so White walking away with $1 million wouldn't be much of a surprise.
At the end of the day, though, White could end up being in a lot of trouble as she also failed to secure her four dogs.
At the moment, she must register all dogs as dangerous, and create a 6-foot high enclosure to make sure they do not injure a human or another animal. She must also place a sign at the front of her house to alert a passersby that her dogs are dangerous.
