Persona 5, the social simulator and dungeon crawler Japanese RPG hybrid, brings back the negotiation system to the series as the means to recruit new Personas to fight by the player's side.
The demon negotiation system was a part of the earlier titles in the Persona franchise. However, it was replaced in the past two installments by Shuffle Time, a system that appears at the end of battles that rewards players with a new Persona or various other bonuses.
'Persona 5' Negotiations
In Persona 5, players have the option to talk with Shadows to try to convince them to join their team as a Persona or to give them an item or money.
To begin negotiations, players will need to knock down all the enemies in battle. To do this, players will need to use their guns or magic spells that target the weak points of their opponents.
After all enemies have been knocked down, players will get the chance to do a Hold Up, where they can either launch an All-Out Attack with all their teammates or talk with the Shadows. If a player chooses to talk to the knocked-down enemies, they will enter negotiations.
During a negotiation, players will be asked certain questions and will be given different options for their answers. The chosen responses will determine whether a Shadow will join the team as a Persona. The chance of that happening is higher if the Shadow is on low health.
How To Make 'Persona 5' Negotiations Easier
One of the best ways to make negotiations easier for players is to increase the rank of the Sun Arcana. An improved relationship with the confidant will both improve negotiation rewards and make it possible for players to skip negotiations entirely to recruit Personas. A maximum Sun Arcana level will also allow players to recruit Personas with a higher level.
Another method to simplify the negotiation process is to kill all the Shadows except the demon that the player wants to negotiate with. The Shadow will become afraid, and the player can then ask the demon to join the team as a Persona without the need to go through questions.
However, one of the best tips for demon negotiations in Persona 5 is hidden in the game. When players press the triangle button while in the overworld, they will be able to call up the tutorial, which features most of the things that were explained to players at the beginning of Persona 5.
The tutorial also includes tips on demon negotiations that were not shown at the start of the game related to the personalities of the Shadows. It is stated that upbeat Shadows like joking responses and do not like serious or vague answers, while timid Shadows prefer kind answers over vague and joking responses. Irritable Shadows, meanwhile, like serious responses and hate kind or vague answers, and gloomy Shadows prefer vague answers and do not like joining and serious responses.
To know the personality of a Shadow, players can check by selecting it on the Hold Up screen or through the Analysis screen.
