Jak and Daxter, the titular characters in one of Naughty Dog's most popular and successful franchises, are coming to the PlayStation 4.
Four Jax and Daxter classic titles from the PlayStation 2 will soon be released on the PlayStation Store as digital downloads for PlayStation 4 gamers who are looking to relive the crazy adventures of the duo.
Four 'Jak and Daxter' Games Coming To The PS4
The announcement that classic Jak and Daxter titles are coming to the PlayStation 4 was made through the official PlayStation blog.
The Jak and Daxter games that will be made available to PlayStation 4 owners are Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, Jak 3, and Jak X: Combat Racing. All these titles were initially released by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation 2.
While the original trilogy in the Jak and Daxter franchise have since been re-released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, this marks the first time that Jak X: Combat Racing will be once again made available after its initial launch in 2005.
In the original trilogy, players will be able to once again join Jak and Daxter as they travel through their world in an attempt to unlock its secrets and learn about the mysteries that were left behind by the Precursors, the creators of the planet.
Jak X: Combat Racing, meanwhile, will allow players to enjoy the Adventure and Exhibition modes but will not have online features. For multiplayer games, players will have to resort to a split screen mode.
The games will be released sometime within the year, with details on the prices of the titles not yet revealed. It is also unclear if the games will be launched simultaneously as a collection or individually.
What's New With The 'Jak and Daxter' Games?
Crash Bandicoot, another popular franchise from the PlayStation's past, is also being re-released on the PlayStation 4, with reworked and remastered versions of the first three games in the series. The titles are being described to be having a "remaster plus" treatment, which is somewhere in between a complete remake and a simple remaster, as will be seen once the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy launches on June 30.
Unfortunately, such a makeover will not be happening for the four Jak and Daxter games coming to the PlayStation 4. The titles will be rendered at 1080p and will begin to support modern PlayStation features such as trophies and Remote Play, but there will be no new features and no graphic overhauls.
In addition, it seems that there will be no physical release for the titles, with the only way to acquire them being through a digital purchase on the PlayStation Store.
PlayStation Classics Coming To The PlayStation 4
The Jak and Daxter games provide a look at Naughty Dog's previous projects before The Last of Us and Uncharted.
In addition to the upcoming Jak and Daxter and Crash Bandicoot re-releases, another classic franchise coming back to the PlayStation 4 is futuristic racer Wipeout. Ratchet and Clank, another 3D platformer from the past, was released on the PlayStation 4 last year.
