The final version of Android 7.1.2 Nougat has reportedly started rolling out to the Pixel C and Nexus Player, upgrading the two devices to the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.
The release of Android 7.1.2 Nougat to the Pixel C and Nexus Player comes right before the rumored April 3 release date of what could be the last Android Nougat update.
Android 7.1.2 Nougat Rolling Out Now
Google previously confirmed that it will be rolling out Android 7.1.2 Nougat first to certain Pixel and Nexus devices, including the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P. The Pixel C and Nexus Player are also on that list, with these two devices seemingly receiving the update first. Unfortunately for Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 users, these two devices were not included by Google as compatible recipients of the operating system update.
The launch of Android 7.1.2 Nougat comes after just over two months since Google introduced the beta version of the latest build of the mobile operating system.
Pixel C owners have said that they received the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update alongside the April Security Update, with the package coming in at a size of 340 MB. The package is being distributed through an over-the-air update that is being pushed out in stages, so some Pixel C users and owners of the other compatible Pixel and Nexus devices might have to wait for a few days before Android 7.1.2 Nougat arrives.
For impatient owners, there is also the option of habitually checking the System Updates section of their Pixel and Nexus devices to see if the update has already been made available for them.
As with all previous Android version updates, users who are installing Android 7.1.2 Nougat should make sure that they have enough storage space available on their devices and that their battery has over half of its charge remaining before initiating the process.
Why Pixel C, Nexus Player First?
The arrival of Android 7.1.2 Nougat to the Pixel C and Nexus Player first before the other compatible Pixel and Nexus devices is likely because the update will do more for these two devices compared to the others.
The latest version of Android Nougat introduces the new Pixel Launcher to the last remaining tablet supported by Google, in addition to the new method of revealing the app drawer. The recent apps on the Pixel C will also change from the card-based "tickler" style that is seen in smartphones to a grid that displays the eight apps most recently used in the tablet. It is unclear, however, if this change will also be added to the Nexus Player.
When Will The Android 7.1.2 Nougat Update Arrive To Other Smartphones?
An update was declared by Rogers, a carrier in Canada, for Pixel devices on April 3, and it now seems that the rumor was true on the intended rollout date for Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
The arrival of the operating system update to other Android smartphones, however, is still unclear. Non-Google Android-powered smartphones and tablets might have to wait for a while, as individual carriers and smartphone manufacturers need to sign off on updates before they arrive. Sometimes, the delay could reach several months.
