A day after the official announcement of Destiny 2, developer Bungie has released a teaser video for the highly anticipated sequel to the popular sci-fi space shooter.
The cinematic trailer does not reveal any details regarding the gameplay of Destiny 2, but it contains several elements that can be expected from the upcoming game.
'Destiny 2' Teaser Video Featuring Cayde-6
The teaser video, uploaded by Bungie through various online channels, features Cayde-6, voiced by actor Nathan Fillon. Cayde-6 is apparently at some bar, having a drink while he talks about "an ugly contest where everyone was a winner."
Cayde-6 is talking about an attack launched by the Cabal, which was shown through a series of flashbacks. One of the scenes showed Cayde fighting alongside a Titan, which is probably Commander Zavala, in a place that looks like the Hall of Guardians. Cayde-6 says that he "did a lot of shooting," before an enemy destroyed "his second-favorite store."
The video then pans out to show that the bar where Cayde-6 is having his drink is in the middle of a warzone, with Cayde-6 then saying that he "better get back to it" as he picks up his weapon and leaves the destroyed bar.
In the background, we can hear someone saying "Cayde, any day now," which sounds like Zavala, who is voiced by Lance Reddick. "Geez, the guy has one drink. I'm coming!" Cayde-6 answers back before firing shots and re-joining the fray.
What We Can Get From The 'Destiny 2' Teaser Video
The teaser video ended by showing that the worldwide reveal trailer will be released on March 30 at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET). The trailer will likely contain even more details regarding Destiny 2, including perhaps the official announcement that the game will also be coming to the PC.
The cinematic trailer also confirmed theories that the teaser image previously released by Bungie featured The Last City in ruins. The Cabal have attacked Earth, with their target not just the Tower.
The destruction of the Tower, along with The Last City, also ties in with previously revealed information that players will not be able to transfer their levels, currency, weapons, and gear from Destiny to Destiny 2. With the Tower and all its vaults destroyed, the lore will tie in with the explanation on why all players will be starting out with a clean slate for the sequel.
However, perhaps the biggest takeaway from the teaser video is that Bungie is kicking things off for Destiny 2 with humor. The first Destiny received criticism for initially being too serious, with its story bearing a confusing plot during the parts where it was a factor. The teaser video shows that Bungie might now be looking to place a bigger focus on fixing these issues found in Destiny with Destiny 2, and who better to showcase that change than Cayde-6, who was arguably the best source of humor in Destiny.
It remains unclear whether Bungie already had plans to unveil Destiny 2, or if the developer was forced to do so as posters of the game were recently leaked. Nevertheless, fans of the series should stay tuned for the upcoming reveal trailer, and all the details that it would contain.
