The HTC One M9 on U.S. carrier T-Mobile is now getting a new software treat, as Android 7.0 Nougat has apparently started rolling out.
Android 7.0 Nougat packs a slew of neat features and improvements to enhance the overall experience and the HTC One M9 could surely use the boost.
The smartphone sports good specifications and delivers a satisfactory performance, yet many found it a bit disappointing because it didn't offer much innovation compared with its predecessor. The HTC One M8 continues to be one of the most loved HTC smartphones and when the One M9 came out, many felt it was not really worth the upgrade.
In recent years, HTC lost significant ground to rivals on the smartphone market and despite its efforts, it never really managed to replicate the whopping success of the One M8. The One M9 lacked the wow factor and the HTC 10 raised plenty of interest, but didn't really fly off store shelves either.
T-Mobile HTC One M9 Android 7.0 Nougat Update
Nevertheless, the HTC One M9 still packs a punch and the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update should make it notably more attractive. One M9 owners on T-Mobile have reportedly started getting the Nougat update today, boosting the smartphone's software to version 4.27.531.6.
The update package weighs in at 1.09 GB and it's best to download and install the new software on a Wi-Fi connection to avoid incurring data charges. At the same time, make sure that the smartphone has at least 50 percent battery life left so that the update process goes smoothly and without interruptions.
Android 7.0 Nougat Top Features
Android 7.0 Nougat marks a big jump from the previous Marshmallow flavor and brings a range of cool tricks such as Multi-Window split-screen multitasking, an enhanced notification system, customized Quick Windows, improved battery optimization with Doze, Instant Apps, seamless updates, an improved user interface and more. The latest Android flavor also comes with the newest Unicode on board, giving users access to the most recent emoji.
The Android 7.0 Nougat update for the HTC One M9 on T-Mobile seems to come with the Android security patch for the month of February, not March. As a reminder, Android monthly security updates aim to keep the device safe and up to date against the latest security threats.
As always, the update package also includes some performance enhancements to make things go more smoothly overall.
T-Mobile's software update support page still lists the HTC One M9 Nougat update as in the "testing" phase, but device owners have already started receiving the update. This could either mean that some users got the treat ahead of time, or that T-Mobile's support page just needs some updating. The latter variant seems the most likely. Other HTC One M9 versions on other carriers in the United States could get the treat soon as well.
