Bosch Partners With Nvidia For Developing AI-Powered Self-Driving Car System

The world's largest automotive supplier, Bosch, made an announcement on March 14 that the company is collaborating with Nvidia to evolve artificial intelligence and self-driving cars.

At Bosch group's annual Internet of Things (IoT) conference in Berlin, Volkmar Denner, CEO of Bosch, revealed the news of the alliance.

The German company Bosch is supposedly competing with Mobileye, a company from Israel, which provides non-segregated camera, chips and software for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which are crucial for self-driving vehicles. Mobileye is ruling almost 70 percent of the market and was acquired by Intel a few days ago.

Intel purchased Mobileye for $15.3 billion, but this fact seems to have left both Bosch and Nvidia unfazed. At the moment, they are completely focused on creating technology, which would drive autonomous cars of the future.

Features Of The AI Autonomous Cars

Nvidia and Bosch are working together to make advanced AI-powered autonomous car computer developed on the deep learning software from Nvidia, along with hardware that allows cars to have trainings on several aspects such as difficulties during driving with continuous OTA updates through latest attributes and capacities.

The AI-powered computer system for cars from Bosch will be established on the advanced Nvidia DRIVE PX technology with Xavier chips. The chip that will be used in the AI cars will be the world's first single-chip processor which will allow the cars to reach the level-4 self-driving experience.

"Self-driving cars is a challenge that can finally be solved with recent breakthroughs in deep learning and artificial intelligence," said Jen-Hsun Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia.

Bosch will develop automotive-grade systems for the self-driving cars with the help of DRIVE PX AI car computer. Both the companies are on their way to make a safe and secured future for self-driving cars which will be available for everyone. Self-driving vehicles will be able to make the roads safer and to do that AI is a vital aspect.

Function Of The Car Computers

The car computers will be exclusively made to understand the surrounding of the car better with the support of cameras as well as sensors, which will allow the autonomous car to make smart and sensible decisions so the vehicle can act accordingly.

It will help the car avoid inconvenient situations such as accidents, while also allowing it to avoid people when crossing the roads and more.

According to Reuters, autonomous cars along with this operating system are scheduled to hit the market by 2020.

The extraordinary execution of Xavier is required to deal with the huge amount of computer operation needed to fulfill the mandatory jobs of an autonomous vehicle.

These functions include activating the neural nets of the car to understand the surrounding, interpretation of 3D environment, projecting themselves on an HD map and assuming the position and characteristics of the objects nearby.

The Xavier chip was introduced at CES 2017 by Nvidia, but it was unknown — until now — that the company intends to include the chip in autonomous cars which may run on the roads someday.
