The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to debut later this year with impressive specs and features on board, including a dual rear camera setup.
The rumor mill has been mostly focusing on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus flagships set to debut later this month, and a slew of leaks, rumors, and reports tried to paint a picture of what to expect. When it comes to the Galaxy Note 8, however, things have been rather quiet and not a lot of information is available.
Galaxy Note 8 leaks haven't been nearly as extensive or frequent as Galaxy S8 ones, but some tidbits of information still reached the surface and seem plausible enough, albeit no factual evidence exists yet.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Dual Camera
Last year, rumors indicated that the Samsung Galaxy S8 would feature a dual rear camera system for superior photography props. Subsequent reports, however, claimed that Samsung dropped dual camera plans for the Galaxy S8 possibly on account of cost concerns. More recently, custom skin manufacturer dbrand started taking preorders for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus skins and the accessories appear to confirm the absence of a dual rear camera setup.
While the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus may feature a single rear camera, the Galaxy Note 8 could be the Samsung powerhouse to finally boast two rear cameras. Galaxy Note flagships have traditionally been more powerful than the Galaxy S flagships released earlier in the year, and a dual rear camera system could be one of the main specs to differentiate the Galaxy Note 8 from the Galaxy S8 series.
Exynos 8895 Processor
Samsung has yet to use its latest high-end Exynos 8895 processor in any device, as it's set to debut with the Galaxy S8. The company has traditionally powered its flagships with a Snapdragon processor in some regions and an in-house Exynos processor in other regions, and this year the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are expected to debut with the Snapdragon 835/ Exynos 8895 processing options.
It's safe to presume the Galaxy Note 8 would pack the same Exynos 8895 processor as the Galaxy S8 series, just like the Galaxy Note 7 used the same processor as the Galaxy S7 series.
One exciting tidbit of information about the Exynos 8895 is that it supports dual rear cameras, which could mean one of two things: either the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will feature dual rear cameras after all, or it will support the setup on the Galaxy Note 8.
The extensive Galaxy S8 leaks indicate that a single rear camera is in tow, which could mean that the dual rear camera setup is reserved for the Galaxy Note 8. It's all speculation for now, but why would Samsung support such a feature with its Exynos 8895 processor if it didn't plan on implementing it in a future device?
Based on recent rumors and reports, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus already pack a slew of powerful specs and features to make them worthy of the flagship title. The Galaxy Note 8, however, may have a tough time due to the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, so it could use some extra oomph to make up for its predecessor's resounding failure.
Galaxy Note 8 Design: Ultra-Thin
The purported Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is also rumored to sport an ultra-thin profile of just 8 mm, which would make it the thinnest phablet Samsung ever made. This could be another selling point for the Galaxy Note 8, but it remains to be seen.
The Galaxy Note 8 could make its debut sometime in the second half of this year, a few months after the Galaxy S8 series. With no evidence to support the rumors and no official confirmation from Samsung, however, it's highly advisable to take all Galaxy Note 8 reports with a grain of salt.
