Nintendo has dropped a new trailer for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, showing off neat new Battle Modes, Donkey Kong pulling a cool dabble, exclusive Switch features, and more.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will mark the highly anticipated comeback of one of the most popular Wii U games - Mario Kart 8 - but this time adapted to rock the latest Nintendo Switch portable console.
The new version of the hit racing game is set to arrive next month and will add new content not available in the Wii U release. The overview trailer Nintendo just released now offers a glimpse of what to expect and it's quite exciting.
'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'
Launching exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on April 28, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will feature more than 48 tracks and 40 racers in the main game and its two DLCs. Some of the new stars joining the party include Bowser Jr., Dry Bones, King Boo, and the Splatoon Inklings. Players will also be able to unlock Gold Mario if they master all tracks at 200cc difficulty.
Revamped Battle Modes
The Battle Mode of the original Mario Kart 8 was rather disappointing, but Nintendo plans to make up for it with the release for Switch. The trailer puts a lot of emphasis on the new Battle Modes overhaul, suggesting that it's among the highlights. Players will be able to enjoy maps such as Luigi's Mansion, Wario Coliseum, or the Wuhu Island of the Wii Sports Resort in the new iteration.
The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Battle Modes will boast eight dedicated courses besides the main roster, taking things to the next level. Moreover, rather than just having players chase rivals around a near-empty track like in Mario Kart 8, the new Game Modes will spice things up with new options such as Coin Runners, Bo-Bomb Blast, Renegade Roundup, Shine Thief, and Balloon Fight.
Simply put, the new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Battle Modes are less about chasing and more about smashing, which doubles the fun. Players will be able to battle on the eight special courses, including a track based on Splatoon.
Joy-Con Wheel Peripherals
The new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe overview trailer also confirms that the wheel peripherals for the Switch's Joy-Con controllers will launch on the same day as the game itself. This should further enhance the fun and improve the overall experience.
"The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game contains every character, track and kart from the Wii U version - including all the previously released DLC - with the addition of even more content," touts the press release. "Even previous owners of Mario Kart 8 will find fun new surprises around every hairpin turn while playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. And with the portability of Nintendo Switch, for the first time ever, players can take the game's anti-gravity action anywhere they go!"
