'Tosh.0' blasts ESPN for 'stealing' web redemption segment

If you've ever watched comedian Daniel Tosh's show on Comedy Central, you'll know it mostly consists of Tosh talking over funny internet videos in which people embarrass themselves. Every so often Tosh will meet up with one of the unfortunate stars suddenly catapulted to internet fame and offer them a chance at redemption on his show.

It's a clever formula that usually delivers some laughs, and one that would go perfectly with the recent video of Canucks anthem singer Mark Donnelly. Donnelly recently tripped over a red carpet while singing Canada's national anthem at a hockey game, and of course somebody capture it all on video.

"I know what you're thinking, 'That would make a great web redemption,'" Tosh says in the segment. "Apparently, you're not the only one who thought so."

ESPN thought so too, because the sports broadcaster in a recent segment basically did just that, and Tosh isn't happy about it. In a portion called "Awesome Video Segment," a reporter from ESPN interviews Donnelly and then offers him a chance to "redo" his anthem singing video. It's almost identical to Tosh's longtime segment.

So Tosh did what any self-respecting comedian would do and let ESPN have it. He copies the ESPN segment called Sports Science (and adds a .0 on the end) and uses it to rip ESPN a new one. He blasts the hosts, the networks coverage, relationship to the NFL and more. It's harsh, but, for anybody who regularly watches ESPN, also more than a little true.

A friendly reminder to all networks: don't steal a comedian's signature act, or he might just embarrass you.
