Honda fans have plenty to cheer about. The Honda 2017 Civic Type R debuted in the United States at the Geneva Motor Show 2017 on March 7, and the premier hatchback is gunning for the competition.
It has been a dry spell for Honda, post the S2000 Roadster, but consumers in the United States will be delighted to see this new, mean machine from the carmaker.
The Honda 2017 Civic Type R arrives in the United States at the New York International Auto Show on April 12. This car is only the second Type R automobile to be sold in the United States, and the new Civic is a lethal combination of high-strung turbo engines, aggressive and bold design cuts on the body, a broad and sleek chassis and exquisite interiors.
"The fastest, most powerful Honda ever sold in America, the Type R caps off the incredible success story of our 10th generation Civic lineup," said Jeff Conrad, the SVP and GM of the Honda Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
The Honda 2017 Civic Type R: What's Under The Hood?
The new 2017 Civic Type R is kitted with a turbocharged 2-liter inline engine with 306 horsepower and 295 pounds of torque. It has a six-speed manual transmission system, and the torque will be released through the front wheels itself, therefore enhancing the driving experience.
The peak torque levels at around 2500 rpm and the maximum horsepower goes up to 6500 rpm, peaking at 7000 rpm. The new Civic is lighter than Ford's all-wheel drive but the exact weight has not been shared by the company yet. The aluminum hood looks to contribute to a reduction in weight of the Type R.
Other Tweaks
The chassis of the new Civic 2017 Type R gets a complete overhaul which constitutes the addition of structural bracings and different tunings for the dampers, bushings and springs. The new Civic has three driving modes: Comfort, Sport and +R. These modes control the steering and throttle mechanisms, the stability control and rev-matching systems.
The new Civic is a lot more aggressive than its earlier versions. For starters, it has a much sharper and more unconventional look than other variants.
The body kit is made up of red carbon-fiber kit with a red line joining the vents, rear wing and the hood scoop. Three large, centrally situated exhaust pipes announce the Civic from afar. The color red is further highlighted by the steering wheel, which has a bold red trim.
The new Honda 2017 Civic Type R is all set to be released in the mid-$30,000 price range. The car may face tough and serious competition from the Focus RS and WRX STI, but is still an amazing and strong contender.
Honda looks poised to capture consumer attention, while people wait with bated breath for the new Civic to arrive.
