Orisa, the newest hero for massively popular multiplayer shooter Overwatch, is now available for players to try out in the game's Public Test Region.
Orisa is an omnic quadruped tank built by 11-year-old robotics and artificial intelligence genius Efi Oladele. She was designed to be a so-called anchor-tank, and as such, her skills are capable of providing defense to both herself and the team while also providing other forms of support to her allies.
Orisa Supercharger Bug In 'Overwatch'
The ultimate skill of Orisa is the Supercharger, and once activated, she places a device on the ground that boosts her damage and that of nearby teammates by 50 percent for 15 seconds. The Supercharger can single-handedly turn the tides of a group fight, and in critical situations, could snatch victory for Orisa's team.
The Supercharger, however, comes with limitations. The device itself can be destroyed by opponents, and with just 200 health points, the Supercharger is very easy to take down. As such, for Orisa and her teammates to maximize the damage boost provided by the Supercharger, they will have to work together to protect it, including having Orisa shield the device with her Protective Barrier skill. Alternatively, Orisa players will need to pinpoint good locations for the Supercharger such as around corners from where the action is happening, at the risk of placing it too far away to benefit her team.
However, a bug discovered by players testing Orisa in the Overwatch PTR mitigates these weaknesses. As demonstrated in a thread created by Redditor Muppetfarts on the official Overwatch sub-Reddit, the Supercharger can pass through the ground when placed on stairs, making it nearly impossible for opponents to destroy.
The example in the opening post of the thread was done on the Numbani map, which just so happens to be the home of Oladele and Orisa. However, several players have confirmed that the bug can also be done in stairs on other maps, such as in the Temple of Anubis and in Eichenwalde.
In addition to the Supercharger sinking into stairs, it was also discovered that the bug can be done to embed the Supercharger into the payload in maps on that mode.
Is The Orisa Supercharger Glitch Too Powerful, And Will It Be Fixed?
Placing the Supercharger in locations that make it nearly impossible for opponents to destroy gives Orisa's team an unfair advantage, as the requirement to protect the Supercharger is supposed to be one of the trade-offs for the significant damage boost that the device provides. It does not help that many critical points on Overwatch maps feature stairs nearby, so Orisa players looking to abuse the bug will not run out of opportunities to do so.
In addition, if the Supercharger is placed on the payload, it will also move along with it, providing the damage boost as Orisa's team charges forward.
Fortunately, Blizzard has already taken note of the issue in its latest PTR Bug Report. Orisa players can still take advantage of the bug, but it will surely be removed in the near future.
