Owners of Asus ZenWatch 3 and ZenWatch 2 will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the latest Android Wear 2.0 update.
Asus took to Twitter to announce that the much awaited update will be rolled out for ZenWatch 3 and ZenWatch 2 in the second quarter of 2017.
Earlier in February, it was confirmed by Asus that the users of the smartwatches will be getting the Android Wear 2.0 update. However, at the time, Asus did not reveal when it would be rolling out the Android Wear 2.0 update for its two smartwatches.
Android Wear Update To Come In April?
Asus revealed that the software update for its wearable would be pushed out in early Q2 2017. The company disclosed this detail in response to a ZenWatch user's query on Twiter. The user asked when the ZenWatch 2 update would arrive to which Asus responded with the time window.
Although no specific date has been mentioned by Asus regarding the roll out of the update, it is being assumed that the ZenWatch 3 and ZenWatch 2 may be getting the update in April as the company tweeted the time period to be "early Q2".
The Android Wear 2.0 update was launched by Google a few weeks ago. Given that most smartwatch manufacturers did not receive the early build of the operating system before hand, they will be entangled in the process of testing and optimizing the new OS on their products.
Thus, it doesn't seem that Asus will be the only one to push back the roll out to the second quarter of 2017. It is likely that the company will be revealing in the coming weeks, more details of the software upgrade that will be rolled out for ZenWatch 2 and the ZenWatch 3.
Earlier in January, Asus had pushed out major updates for ZenWatch 2 and the ZenWatch 3. The update released for ZenWatch 3 improved the usability of the wearable and introduced the eco mode. The ZenWatch 2 January update did not introduce new features in the device, but enhanced the security of the device to prevent it from getting hacked.
Android Wear 2.0 Features
Android Wear 2.0 was launched on Feb. 8 and came first in LG Watch Style and Watch Sport. The upgraded Google watchOS focuses more on seamless workouts, personalized watch faces, new ways to access the apps, more ways to connect to people and also comes integrated with Google Assistant support.
The latest Android Wear 2.0 update by Google also comes with the feature of supporting standalone apps, thanks to which does not need a companion phone app for the device to function. This in turn has created the opportunity for the developers to build apps for smartwatches directly.
