Be it Apple, Samsung or any other smartphone company, battery explosions have become a very common nuisance issue nowadays.
Though the respective companies are doing their best to ensure safety for its consumers, accidents do come uninvited. The latest explosion story to create headlines is an iPhone 7 Plus which exploded on Feb. 22.
Brianna Olivas, an iPhone 7 Plus user, uploaded a video to her Twitter account, which showed smoke coming out of the handset after it exploded on Feb. 22 morning. This is not an isolated incident as Apple faced serious mishaps as well with its iPhone 6 Plus when it caught fire.
Just a day before the mishap, Brianna reported that her device was facing some issues, and so she took it back to Sprint from where she had purchased the iPhone in January.
However, a Sprint official shared that though the handset was acting weird when they tried to turn it on, a diagnostic check reflected no major errors in the handset.
What Happened Exactly
Based on the statement shared by Brianna, the iPhone 7 Plus was kept on charge next to her head. It was unplugged by her boyfriend who kept it on a dresser before going into the restroom.
However, the boyfriend noticed smoke coming out of the iPhone 7 Plus and also heard a distinct squealing noise. By the time he got his hands on the iPhone, the device had already caught fire. He then threw it in the restroom where the iPhone exploded, leading to more smoke coming out of the device at the same time.
Brianna shared the video of the incident on Twitter, right after the explosion occurred, which has been viewed more than 1.26 million times and got around 18,000 retweets.
Even an Apple Store Genius was totally clueless about this mishap, stating that he had never witnessed anything like this before. Apple has already started investigation of the incident and a company spokesman said that they are in touch with Brianna for assistance.
iPhone Early Mishaps
Apple witnessed a similar incident with its iPhone 6 Plus on Feb. 2, in which the owner, Amanda Bentz, reported that her smartphone caught fire in the middle of the night.
Similar incidents have been noticed about the iPhone 7 Plus, where the device exploded when it accidentally fell on the ground. It is advisable for all iPhone users to maintain constant vigilance and also avoid sleeping next to their smartphone, even if it is turned off while plugged and charging.
