Samsung is expected to announce the launch date of its upcoming Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus at Mobile World Congress 2017. A new report claims the company will subsequently release the smartphones on April 21.
While the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are going to miss out on a Mobile World Congress launch, Samsung will reportedly announce an official launch date for the new smartphones at the show. The company is believed to be planning an Unpacked event on March 29 in New York City to show off the smartphones to the public.
Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus Pose For The Camera
Images of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus recently leaked and appear to confirm the pair will pack in 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch curved edge displays, a sizeable increase over the Galaxy S7's 5.1-inch screen and the S7 edge's 5.5-inch display. Samsung is said to be confident that the S8 and S8 Plus will be an even bigger success than their predecessors, that it reportedly has doubled shipments of the new handsets to meet demand.
Samsung Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus Release Date
In early January, we reported that Samsung was likely planning to release the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus on April 21 and if a new report is to be believed, you can mark your calendar for Friday, April 21.
ET News is reporting that Samsung will indeed hold a March 29 event to launch the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus and will release the smartphones globally on April 21. The publication states a presale for the Galaxy S8 has not yet been determined.
Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8 Plus Specs, Design, And Bixby
The Galaxy S8 is expected to use a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display and the Galaxy S8 Plus will sport a larger 6.2-inch screen. The smartphones will be the first devices to ship with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor or Samsung Exynos processor (depending on market). They will have 4 GB of RAM and run Android 7.0 Nougat. The handsets will include 64 GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot, and standard 3.5mm headphone port.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will feature a glass and metal design that's both waterproof and dust-resistant. In addition, the handsets will reportedly include an iris scanner to allow users to unlock the device with their eyes or use the fingerprint scanner, which has been relocated to the rear of both smartphones.
Samsung is also expected to launch a new personal assistant named "Bixby" that will be exclusive to the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus and is believed to use enhanced AI. Of course, we'll know all of the official details in a few weeks but you can bet there will be juicy leaks leading up to Samsung's March 29 event.
