It Looks Like 'Final Fantasy XIV' Could Find Its Way To The Nintendo Switch

Just over a week ago, director Hajime Tabata said that Final Fantasy XV will not be coming to the Nintendo Switch, claiming that the game simply would not run on the upcoming hybrid console.

Fans of the Final Fantasy franchise, however, have something else to look forward to with the Nintendo Switch, as it has been hinted that the other current game in the series, Final Fantasy XIV, could be coming to the platform.

'Final Fantasy XIV' Could Land On The Nintendo Switch

At the ongoing Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Germany, producer Naoki Yoshida discussed the possibility of bringing the MMORPG to the upcoming Nintendo Switch.

According to Yoshida, the key goal of the Final Fantasy XIV development team is to release the game to as many platforms as possible. The main limitation in this goal is that the team does not want to create a so-called boxed-off version of Final Fantasy XIV just to be able to bring it to another console that will not allow users interact with players on other platforms.

If the limitation can be overcome, then the Final Fantasy XIV development team will be very interested in launching discussions to bring the MMORPG to the Nintendo Switch, The Sixth Axis reported.

Yoshida did not make promises that the game will indeed be coming to the Nintendo Switch, but unlike Final Fantasy XV which practically has no chance of landing on the upcoming console, the mere chance that Final Fantasy XIV could arrive to the Nintendo Switch is enough to drum up excitement.

How Will 'Final Fantasy XIV' Look Like On The Nintendo Switch?

The plan for the online gaming platform of the Nintendo Switch remains unclear, but it is easy to see why Final Fantasy XIV fans would be excited at the possibility of the MMORPG coming to the hybrid console.

On the Nintendo Switch, Final Fantasy XIV players will be able to play the game while on the go, which is a huge plus for an MMORPG. Once players return home, they would be able to continue playing where they left off on their TV screen once they insert the Nintendo Switch into its dock.

Final Fantasy XIV has continued to attract players on PC and consoles, despite the reboot being released back in 2013. Its age is actually an advantage in the discussion on whether it will come to the Nintendo Switch, as while the hybrid console is less powerful than PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it seems to be capable of running Final Fantasy XIV.

It seems that the decision now rests on Nintendo, on whether it will support the online experience of Final Fantasy XIV and the possibility for cross-platform play.

Whatever the case may be, Final Fantasy XIV will not be ready for the Nintendo Switch in time for the arrival of the game's next expansion. Named Stormblood, the expansion was also revealed at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Germany to have the Samurai as its second new job, in addition to the Red Mage.
