Microsoft has announced that iOS Office users can now create and edit documents without getting any Office 365 subscription. For users who paid for a subscription before the free offer, Microsoft is giving them a prorated refund.
An Office 365 subscription has the lowest monthly charge of $7, or annually of $70. Microsoft understands that some subscribers may have regretted making the purchase. There are just a few steps that subscribers need to know.
The first thing that the subscriber must do is to apply for the said refund. It will not just happen automatically. The next thing to do is to check if one's subscription is Home or Personal Office 365 since these are the only ones eligible for refund. Business subscriptions are a little more complicated and are not covered.
The home and personal subscriptions of Office 365 should have been purchased on or after March 27, 2014 and activated before November 6,2014. The former is when Office for iPad became available while the latter marks the day when Microsoft announced the changes.
Subscribers can cancel their Office 365 subscription and request a pro-rated refund until January 31, 2015. However, the process also depends on where the subscriber paid for his subscription.
For those users who subscribed by going to the App Store, they need to contact iTunes support. Those who subscribed from Microsoft or a third-party reseller should contact a Microsoft agent to make a refund request. If the subscriber has made several subscriptions, he should ask for a refund to each subscription at the same time.
When asking for a refund, the subscriber may be asked to provide his proof-of-purchase documentation. Apart from business subscriptions, trials and free subscriptions are also ineligible for a refund.
Users must remember that it may take time for the refund to take effect. Microsoft said that the refund can take effect anywhere between six to eight weeks. Moreover, the company said that it reserves the right to deny a request for any refund it perceives as fraudulent.
If the subscriber is unsure of the end date of his Office 365 subscription, he can sign in to his account then scroll down to payment and billing. He should be able to view the date when his account will expire.
Microsoft reminds consumers that their Office 365 subscription will still allow them to enjoy features such as installing full Office applications on their PC or Mac, 1TB of OneDrive online storage, and 60 Skype world minutes each month.
