Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari has been making jaws drop with its line of sleek luxury sports and racing cars, and it has done so again in 2017 just by releasing photos of the newest member and replacement for the F12 Berlinetta.
The company's LaFerrari Aperta already stole the spotlight During the 2016 Paris Motor Show, but Ferrari intends to do it again in 2017, when it finally unveils the 812 Ferrari Superfast.
The 812 Ferrari Superfast may be a strange name for a luxury sports car, but the vehicle definitely lives up to its name not only in terms of speed but of tradition as well. This is because the V12 series marked Ferrari's glorious beginning in 1947, so the 812 Ferrari Superfast is also the 70th anniversary vehicle of the company.
Introducing the 812 Superfast
Ferrari's new luxury sports car boasts a 6.5-liter V12 engine that produces 789 horsepower, which peaks at 8,500 rpm. Its maximum torque is 718 Nm at 7,000 rpm and can go from zero to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds. Tesla is still ahead when it comes to acceleration, but we cannot discount that the 812 Ferrari Superfast has not yet been pushed to its limits.
It is the first Ferrari vehicle to feature an electric power steering, but the company promises that it will not interfere with driver control and will instead make the Superfast easier to handle.
Initial Reactions to the 812 Superfast
As soon as Ferrari released photos and specifications of the 812 Superfast, sports car and speed enthusiasts as well as critics quickly buzzed around and have expressed their amazement at Ferrari's 70th anniversary vehicle.
Robert Frank, CNBC
"Ferrari continues to be more evolutionary than revolutionary [...] It's got more aggressive curves and a beefier rear flank to provide a downward force at high speeds," Frank says.
Andrew Krok, Road Show by CNET
"It's Ferrari's most powerful V12 to date, and when mated to the 812's dual-clutch transmission, it'll most certainly haul ass around a circuit," Krok writes.
Although Krok was impressed with the engine, interior, and exterior, he noted that the 812 Superfast's rear design is his least favorite since it looks like a unibrow.
Stephen Dobie, Top Gear
"[Mock Superfast] much as you like: the name ought to be thoroughly justified," Dobie writes before he outlined the 812's amazing specifications. However, he added a fair warning for those who are not complete fans of Ferrari's V12 series.
"[If] you didn't like Ferrari's approach to ergonomics before, you're not going to be suddenly won over. The 812 Superfast is an evolution rather than revolution over the F12 Berlinetta," he says.
David Gluckman, Auto Blog
"Gorgeous, right? [...] This 6.5-liter is tied for the title of most powerful Ferrari road-car engine, and it makes this the most powerful front-engine Ferrari ever, which is neat," Gluckman writes.
