RingPlus has announced an official porting date for all customer numbers, which will automatically be switched to its former rival Ting. Subscribers need take no action until the move is completed and they have received an email with instructions on how to verify their number and officially sign up for Ting service.
RingPlus Shutdown Imminent
We've been reporting on the imminent shutdown of the popular RingPlus virtual wireless service. The alternative network has recently announced a complete shutdown in the wake of its recently filed lawsuit against carrier Sprint, the network on which all activity on its customers account was routed. RingPlus, which had a unique business model that played advertisements instead of a ringing sound when subscribers made outgoing phone calls, has alleged that Sprint defrauded it and only entered a contract with it in order to steal its patents and put it out of business.
Customers have already been advised that their service will be switched to rival virtual wireless network Ting, which also uses the Sprint network, and that they may then elect to either use Ting or port out their number from Ting to another carrier. All users that choose to try Ting will receive a $35 service credit toward their initial usage.
Until now, customers have been advised to sit tight as RingPlus, Ting, and Sprint have negotiated the details of the mass migration and have meanwhile been given a lifeline of free and almost free service plans until the porting process is completed.
Mass RingPlus Porting Date To Ting Just Announced
Now, RingPlus has just sent all customers an email advising them that an official date has been set for the mass migration, Tues. Feb. 21. The email reads in part as follows:
"On Tuesday, February 21, all accounts currently on RingPlus will be moved over to Ting. This is happening in part to ensure no one loses their phone number(s) in the RingPlus shutdown. We are also offering credits to match your outstanding RingPlus top ups at a minimum of $35 for absolutely everyone. No action is required at this time. Just keep an eye on your email. We'll let you know once the move is complete."
The email goes on to explain that at that time, subscribers will receive a follow-up email invitation from Ting to verify their number and begin service via Ting. The email also assures customers that they will then be free to move from Ting to any other service that they choose, such as Tello or Sprint itself, and that Ting will facilitate that process and make it smooth and easy for those who then choose to port out.
