Nokia is poised to release not one or two but four devices on Feb. 26 during the Mobile World Congress 2017.
Noted mobile tipster Evan Blass revealed this intel, which he claimed to have been shared by an inside source at HMD Global, the Finnish company that now holds the license to manufacture phones with the Nokia brand.
According to Blass, the phones include the Nokia 6, which has been heavily leaked prior to its initial release in the Chinese market. Joining the handset, however, are the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5, in addition to a purportedly bonus/homage device.
Tech Specs
It seems that all four devices to be unveiled fall under entry to mid-tier range. The 5.5-inch Nokia 6, for instance, sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor. It is further set apart by its aluminum body and its 4 GB of RAM. Nokia 5 rocks the same Qualcomm processor but with a more compact 5.2-inch screen and 2 GB of RAM. Pricing could be $263 and $210, respectively.
Nokia 3, on the other hand, is considered the most entry-level of the three and is expected to retail for around $158. Finally, the bonus handset appears to be a feature non-Android phone, which sources believe is a modern iteration of the popular Nokia 3310. However, this mysterious handset could also be a part of Nokia's fabled N-series based on press invites that Nokia has purportedly sent out.
Availability
If the trend in China will continue, it seems that the Nokia handsets, particularly the Nokia 6, will prove to be quite popular. In case you don't know yet, the device is consistently being depleted in store shelves there since its release.
As a matter of fact, HMD Global had to push back at reports that it is holding flash sale for the 6. According to the company, they appear to be staging such strategy because they had to restock more than three times after supply got depleted in minutes.
Nokia P1
If you are waiting for the Nokia P1 or what some call as Nokia 8, don't hold your breath. It appears to be biding its time and will likely skip MWC 2017, and this is at least based on recent rumors regarding Nokia's MWC event.
Interest in this device is quite high because it will effectively become Nokia's flagship. People are curious about its value propositions, those that should set the device apart from the rest as it goes toe to toe with big Android stars such as the Samsung Galaxy S8.
So far, the Nokia 8 is expected to have an all-metal body as well, a 5.7-inch display, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Reports are conflicted whether the chip will be the Snapdragon 821 or the 835.
Whatever the case is, all the speculations should be confirmed at MWC. Nokia has already teased a promotional video announcing its press event at Barcelona.
