Apple is currently working on expanding its empire to be a name that is known for more than just being a smartphone maker. And its latest venture has it taking on Netflix and other big boys of streaming to compete in the space with its own original series.
Now audiences finally have the first look at one of its first series.
Apple released the trailer to its reality show titled Planet of the Apps.
The concept of the series is that app developers give a 60-second elevator pitch to a panel of celebrity advisers in hopes one of them will support their idea. The panel fights over the developer in an attempt to have them choose to work with them and tap into their expert and financial resources.
Sound familiar? Planet of the Apps is essentially Apple's version of Shark Tank.
But the main difference here is that the reality show is specifically focusing on app development. Even the looking feel of the show is very techy.
Produced by Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and William Adams (will.i.am), Planet of the Apps stars Gary Vaynerchuck, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba and will.i.am as the panel of entrepreneur mentors.
DJ Zane Lowe, known for his role on Beats 1 radio, will be the host of the series.
If one of the mentors is on board with a contestant, and the two decide their partnership is a fit, they will work together to develop a full on pitch for venture capital.
The developer will have a chance to get up to $10 million in funding. And since this is Apple we talking about, their title will also be featured prominently in the App Store.
Planet of the Apps will premiere this spring with weekly episodes.
Apple Music will also premiere a Carpool Karaoke series starring James Corden on its platform as it begins rolling out original content.
