Apple's unannounced iPhone 8 continues to make headlines several months ahead of launch. A new report claims the smartphone will supposedly feature an iris scanner to allow users to unlock and authorize mobile payments with their eyes.
Many analysts claimed that Apple's latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus didn't bring enough to the table to create in current iPhone owners the desire to upgrade from older models like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s series. When Apple recently announced its earnings, it was clear that consumers and iPhone fans did want the latest and greatest with features like the iPhone 7 Plus' dual-rear camera, which Apple confirmed helped make it its best-selling Plus model to date, and waterproof cases with stereo speakers. The handsets helped Apple sell a record 78.3 million iPhones alone during the holiday quarter.
Apple Scores Record iPhone Sales
"We're thrilled to report that our holiday quarter results generated Apple's highest quarterly revenue ever, and broke multiple records along the way. We sold more iPhones than ever before and set all-time revenue records for iPhone, Services, Mac and Apple Watch," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.
"Revenue from Services grew strongly over last year, led by record customer activity on the App Store, and we are very excited about the products in our pipeline," Cook added.
While Apple is basking in the glow, it's also plotting its next step to continue record sales and by all accounts it appears prepared to do so, with the 10th anniversary iPhone 8. The smartphone is now slated to add an iris scanner to the never-ending list of specs and features indicated in online publications.
iPhone 8 To Feature Iris Scanner To Unlock With Your Eyes
DigiTimes is reporting that Apple supposedly informed suppliers that it wanted to start production of its new iPhones earlier than usual, kicking off in the second half of the first quarter of 2017. The report backs up claims the iPhone 8 will use an enhanced OLED curved display from Samsung and include wireless charging capabilities. The publication also mentions the new iPhone 8 will have wireless charging capabilities built-in and "iris scanning technology."
The inclusion of an iris scanner in the latest iPhone 8 report backs up a recent story, which claimed Apple was planning to add facial and gesture recognition to its next-generation flagship iPhone. The iris scanner would allow users to quickly unlock their iPhone 8, in addition to authorizing mobile payments using Apple Pay.
As always, it's best to take iPhone 8 reports with a grain of salt. We'll keep you posted on any new details.
