Uber charged this man $539 for an 18-mile ride on Halloween night: What happened?

When consumers think about Uber, they tend to believe the service is cheaper than taking a traditional taxi. That's true in some instances, but it appears a certain male customer made a big mistake and was forced to pay Uber $539.

Obviously, this gentleman is going cuckoo for cocoa puffs right now as he is completely shocked at the amount he had to pay. Apparently, this all happened on the night of Halloween when he took a ride in an Uber car on an 18-mile journey. The whole thing might sound like a big mistake, but in truth, it is not.

The reason for the expensive fee for this 18-mile journey is due to the fact that it is Halloween. Uber's pricing system is not a set thing; it is dynamic, which means it changes. According to Uber, the pricing system is dynamic to interest more drivers on a busy night.

Interestingly enough, this wasn't the only thing that caused this customer to pay $539 at the end of his journey. For some reason, he did not have much understanding of the app and thus made another big blunder by calling for a premium Black Car. According to the customer, he did not see the option, nor did he understand the difference.

Additionally, the client also claimed that he did not see the option within the app that allows him to calculate his fare, so jot that down as three big things that lead to this event happening.

The driver of the car was also surprised by the price, and a bit embarrassed, according to the customer.

"[The driver] was shocked, he was embarrassed actually," according to the client to KDVR. "He gave me his card and he was like, 'Make phone calls. Get in touch with customer service. This can't be right.'"

Luckily for this male customer, he'll get a 25 percent reduction on his massive $539 fare. Uber claimed that every customer who experiences this issue for the first time is eligible for this 25 percent discount. However, let us hope that no one else has to come face-to-face with this again.

Furthermore, customers should bear in mind that they should always check the app for the amount of fare required of them.
