New Dragon Age: Inquisition trailer brings it all down to choice

In a new trailer for the highly anticipated video game Dragon Age: Inquisition, game developer BioWare shows off gameplay and explains how choices made in-game affect the outcome of the game's story.

It's been over three years since the last Dragon Age game, but next week, Inquisition finally gets its release. The result is a fantasy game that the game's developer is not only proud of, but the game they've always wanted to make.

"Our goal was simple: do whatever we had to in order to tell the biggest story we'd ever told in the Dragon Age universe," says executive producer Mark Darrah. "Achieving that meant leaving no stone unturned— from adopting a new engine in Frostbite 3, to reimagining combat so it could blend tactics and action better than ever."

The game also brings back a variety of races and gender choices, both of which affect how the in-game story plays out. BioWare also teases that the new character creator is the biggest the company has built to date.

This new trailer shows off just how deep choices play into gameplay. Although nearly all BioWare's games have relied on choices and consequences for telling their stories, Dragon Age: Inquisition takes it one step further and makes every choice matter.

There will be lots of opportunity for choices, too, from siding with political leaders to dialogue with others to missions taken and missions ignored to romantic alliances. Every decision made in Dragon Age: Inquisition factors into the game's story. With over 200 hours of gameplay (even more than The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim), that amounts to a lot of choices.

But it's not just choices you've made in the new game. Choices from previous games also matter. For those previous Dragon Age players, BioWare opened Dragon Age Keep so that those choices can carry over to the new next generation consoles, even allowing players to change their minds to craft a new experience in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Dragon Age: Inquisition releases on November 18 on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in the U.S. and on November 21 in Europe.
