It was believed that Donald Trump would be giving up his Android handset in favor of a more secure encrypted device approved by the Secret Service.
However, even after taking up office as the president of America, reports suggest that Trump is still using his old Android phone.
Hopefully, Trump will soon follow in the footsteps of the former president of the U.S. Barack Obama and ditch the older handset for a secured smartphone.
Trump is said to be currently using a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, but here is a look at some secure handset options that the U.S. president can consider when switching over to a new device.
Blackphone 2
The feature that makes Silent Circle's 5.5-inch Blackphone 2, one of the most secured smartphones around, is its Silent OS.
"Silent OS is an Android-based operating system, enhanced to address mobile privacy concerns facing enterprises today. Free of bloatware, hooks to carriers, and leaky data, Silent OS puts privacy in the hands of you and your enterprise, without compromising productivity," notes the company.
The Enterprise Spaces feature offered by OS helps create separate as well as many virtual devices on a single device. Silent Circle also assures that the device touts the quickest "vulnerability management," a handy feature for the president's handset to have in case of a hacking attempt.
The smartphone's vulnerability management system is capable of raising series vulnerabilities in just 72 hours of them being reported or detected.
Moreover, the updates and related patches for the handset are rolled out promptly by Silent Circle.
Sirin Solarin
Sirin Labs' 5.5-inch Solarin uses a military-grade security suite. The smartphone also boasts the "most advanced privacy technology, currently unavailable outside the agency world."
It offers an encryption of 256-bit AES that is mostly used by defense forces for securing any form of communication. With watertight security abilities, Trump can consider this smartphone as well.
BlackBerry DTEK50
The BlackBerry DTEK50 offers a full disk encryption option, and the company claims it is one of the most secure Android smartphones in the world.
"DTEK50 ensures that how you share the private details of your life — your location, your pictures, your texts — is your decision. Not all smartphones are equally secure. With the DTEK series of smartphones, you have built in armour protecting your personal information," notes the company.
With features such as tracking periodic application, which assists in monitoring the apps and OS, it also offers a password keeper app that provides better security options.
With this phone, Trump will be able to monitor the apps and the OS with ease and be alerted when privacy is at risk. He will also be guided on how to take appropriate action to enhance the security. A quick glance will offer the security rating for the smartphone — whether it is poor, fair, or excellent — along with tips on improving the same.
Moreover, the encrypted and Password Keeper-equipped smartphone from BlackBerry also alerts the user if someone is taking videos or pictures sans their knowledge, sending an SMS, switching on the mic, or accessing the location or contacts list remotely.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge could be another great option for the president when looking for a secured smartphone. The Galaxy S7 edge relies on the Knox security platform, which offers the user "defense-grade mobile security."
Incidentally, the Samsung Knox 2.6 has garnered the ratings for being most "strong" in the context of a secure mobile platform by Gartner Inc.
With an unending list of smartphones lined up as options for the U.S. president to choose from, it will be interesting to see if Trump changes track and deploys a new secured handset.
