HP"s new Omen gaming PC line is aimed at taking on the likes of Dell's Alienware and making gamers happy.
The HP Omen is a 15.6-inch laptop featuringan Intel Core i7 processor and a Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics card.
"Gamers play to win and expect their PCs to do the same," said Mike Nach, vice president of product management for consumer personal systems at HP. "The HP OMEN delivers the power to dominate with a stunning design to give gamers the ultimate gaming experience."
The computer comes with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution touch screen, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and a classy, dark and sleek design. Users can customize the lighting effects over a total of seven lighting zones, including some portions of the keyboard and the speaker grills. For example, users can customize the backlights behind the WASD keys.
The Omen laptop also includes an Ethernet port, a headphone jack, a HDMI port, a mini DisplayPort and four USB 3.0 ports. HP has also made portability a priority, with the new Omen coming in at 4.68 pounds and 4 hours and 45 minutes of battery life.
According to HP, the new laptop was designed with gaming in mind. The computer was built with the ability to manage thermals, including dual fans that pull cool air through the bottom and push hot air through fans at the rear of the computer. This keeps hot air away from the gamers face and hands.
Yet HP has a tough road ahead in establishing itself as a gaming computer force. Dell's Alienware has long been considered one of the best gaming computer brands on the market, and many gamers simply build their own PCs in an attempt to get the specs they want for as cheap as possible.
One of the great things about the Omen is its form factor -- it is razor thin, offering a great set of specs in a chassis that is very portable. The computer is only 19.9 mm thick, putting it in competition with other gaming laptops like the Blade laptop from Razer. Many gaming laptops with this kind of power weigh closer to 10 pounds and are much thicker.
Users are also able to customize the computer's pre-installed software, allowing for different keyboard shortcuts and fan speed controls.
The HP Omen has a starting price of $1,499 and is available in the U.S.
