There are open-world games. There are tactical shooters. Then there's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands. It is the upcoming game from Ubisoft that aims to inject more action to the genre of open-world games. It is set for global release on March 7, 2017 on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Unlike its previous installment Future Soldier, the latest iteration is staged in modern-day Bolivia, where your goal is for your elite "Ghost" unit to stop a drug cartel Santa Blanca that has ravaged the whole country.
Wildlands was first revealed in E3 2015 by Ubisoft. It was met with mixed responses, but as more gameplay features are being revealed, the gamers are being swayed from "meh" to "gimme"!
Here are some features to prep you when the Ghosts hit the shelves:
Weapons Customization
The popular "gunsmith" mode returns that will allow you to design your own loadouts. Equip your whole team with suppressor-silent gears. Or if you prefer to rock it hard, go full commando with custom-colored rifles and SMGs. Frag in style as you can also customize your soldier. From head to toe, you can garb your own killing machine. These gun parts and accessories can be unlocked by performing missions or picking from locations around the world.
Ghost Recon's New Open World
Wildlands is set in the amazing landscapes of modern-day Bolivia. Your missions will span across 11 provinces in villas, cities and towns set in salt flats, mountains, tropical jungles, and marshlands. The game according to Ubisoft will be bigger than its previous games. How to get around? You can drive all the vehicles you can find: car, tanks, or even choppers!
Cooperative Gameplay
The biggest feature of this game is the 4-player Coop mode, which allows you plus three friends to play together online. While you can undertake missions separately, nothing is more satisfying than performing the popular "synch shot", wherein you take down multiple enemies simultaneously. If you prefer to fly alone, there is also Solo mode that pits you together with 3 AI buddies. There will be an option to issue commands.
Different Gameplay Styles
You can perform silent takedowns at night if you prefer stealth. But you can also go guns-blazing at broad daylight and overwhelm the opposition before they can react. The success of the mission depends on your style, but the game promises to be really challenging that it will still require sound planning and tactics.
Non-linear Storyline
The game is non-linear, so you can undertake any missions from extractions, interrogations to eliminations in any order you want. But the main storyline will proceed like any normal story plot. With so much to do in this vast world, why rush to the finish?
