Microsoft has officially announced the four Xbox Games With Gold titles slated for the month of February, which will all be available as free downloads for those with an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
This time, there's a nice mix of bigger and lesser-known titles, including Asteroid Base's Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, the digital edition of Slightly Mad Studios's Project CARS, LucasArts's Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, another LucasArts title.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
First up is Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, fitting as a nice anthem for the imminent Valentine's Day. The game was released in 2015 for a number of platforms, including the Xbox One. It's a play-as-one or play-with-two-to-four title — which by extension, can also refer to your Valentine's Day plans — in which players pilot a spaceship replete with a slew of stations within. These stations will maneuver the vessel in a number of ways, and through these, the players are able to control the ship's' weapons, engine, or its shield.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime will be available as free download for the whole month of February.
Project CARS
The developers behind Project CARS describe it as as the "ultimate driver journey." It's a motorsport racing simulator released back in 2015 for a number of platforms. It contains 74 cars, 30 unique locations, and 110 different courses. The digital edition of the game includes the game's Limited Edition upgrade DLC pack, which unlocks five legendary cars players are able to drive in any game mode.
Project CARS Digital Edition will be available as a free download starting Feb. 16 until March 15.
Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge was LucasArts's handiwork, first released in 1991 as the second entry in the Monkey Island series. At its core, Monkey Island 2 is a swashbuckling misadventure game, and its special edition remake was released for a number of platforms back in 2010, including the Xbox 360.
Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge will be available as a free download starting Feb. 1 until Feb. 15.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
The Force Unleashed is an action-adventure Star Wars video game initially released in 2008. The game binds two Star Wars trilogies together, standing as an origin story for both the united Rebel Alliance and Galactic Civil War, first depicted in the original landmark Star Wars films. Players will take on the role of Darth Vader's secret apprentice in a new chapter of the saga.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be available as a free download starting Feb. 16 until Feb. 28.
Xbox Live Gold
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Project CARS are both Xbox One games, while Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed are Xbox 360 games. The latter two may be played on Xbox One systems by virtue of the console's backward compatibility program.
Keep in mind that some games from the Xbox Live Gold January lineup can still be had for free, so players who don't find anything alluring from next month's set of games may still have a chance to try out this month's lineup.
