Overwatch is all set to celebrate the Chinese New Year with the upcoming "Year of the Rooster" event, which was teased through a video uploaded to the game's official Twitter account.
While Blizzard has not yet released a significant amount of detail regarding the event beyond the previewed new skins for Mei and D.Va, a leaked advertisement revealed four more legendary skins for Zenyatta, Winston, Reinhardt, and Roadhog based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.
New leaks, this time a pair of videos, have now revealed even more details on Year of the Rooster, including more event-specific skins and a new game mode.
Leaked Chinese Trailer For Year Of The Rooster
The first leaked video for Overwatch's Year of the Rooster, a low-resolution Chinese trailer, first made rounds in the Chinese social network Weibo.
The trailer looks very grainy, with the footage apparently captured off a monitor, so it is very difficult to make out the video's finer details. It can be seen in the trailer though that there are also new skins for Mercy, Symmetra, and Tracer.
In addition, the ending of the trailer hinted at a new game mode for Overwatch, as Tracer is shown with a flag behind her. Could this mean that the highly-requested Capture the Flag mode is finally coming to the multiplayer shooter?
Leaked Spanish Trailer For Year Of The Rooster
While the blurry Chinese trailer lasted only for several seconds, another trailer for Year of the Rooster was released a few hours later. The HD trailer, this time in Spanish, revealed that Junkrat and Bastion were also getting new skins, while providing a more detailed look into the other event-specific loot that players will be able to acquire in Year of the Rooster.
The leaked Spanish trailer also confirmed and showed off the Capture the Flag mode, which will follow the same rules as the classic game. Players will need to capture the flag of the opposing team from their base and transport it all the way back to their own base to score a win.
The Spanish trailer also revealed that Year of the Rooster will last from Jan. 24 to Feb. 13, following the trend set by previous events of lasting for three weeks.
Reactions To Year Of The Rooster Trailers
While the skins, especially that for Mei after the botched legendary skin for the Winter Wonderland event, are appreciated by gamers, a significant amount of the excitement in a couple of threads on the official Overwatch sub-Reddit have been for the new Capture the Flag mode.
From the Chinese trailer, it was speculated that the Capture the Flag mode would be a Tracer-only mode, similar to the Lucio-only Lucioball and Mei-only Mei's Snowball Offensive. However, footage from the Spanish trailer revealed that this is not the case, and players are now strategizing on which heroes to choose for the upcoming new mode.
