iPhone 7 Plus Survives 13 Hours Of Being Submerged In River

An unexpected ice fishing mishap has led to the sudden exhibition of the iPhone 7 Plus' water resistance abilities.

This incident occurred in Russia, where an iPhone 7 Plus was fished out from the bottom of a frozen river and was seen to be working perfectly.

The location for this sudden display of the iPhone's durability is Yakutsk, a city in Russia. A resident accidentally dropped his iPhone in one of the ice fishing holes carved on the surface of the frozen river, but was unable to retrieve it at the time. The phone was therefore left overnight until the man's friend helped him out by diving in the next morning.

A video posted on the diver's Instagram account, identified as Fedor, reveals that it took multiple attempts to find the iPhone 7 Plus underwater. The handset turned on smoothly without any trouble, a short while after being fished out.

It had been submerged underwater for 13 hours at a temperature of 39.2 F (4C) water. Despite this, the iPhone 7 Plus was not damaged in anyway due to the accident.

The iPhone 7 Plus is said to have had 35 percent battery charge before it slipped into the river. After it was pulled out and was safely back in the owner's hands, it was reported to have 19 percent charge still left.

iPhone 7 Plus Waterproof?

One needs to keep in mind that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are not actually waterproof devices. They have a rating of IP67, which deems them competent to survive plunges up to a depth of 3.3 feet. This rating safeguards the device against accidental splashes or a fall in a sink. Nowhere does Apple claim that the iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone 7 can be immersed in water.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, however, have been designed keeping water resistance in mind. Rubber seals and adhesives have been strategically placed inside the chassis to limit water and dust intrusion. The iPhone 6s had partial water resistance capabilities too, as it had gaskets and seals wisely placed inside the casing. Apple, however, did not advertised this feature for the iPhone 6s.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have been advertised as being water resistant and splash proof and has surely lived up to its reputation. This unexpected show of strength has caused the iPhone 7 Plus to become a talking point in the tech community, as no one had foreseen the durability of the phone.

The incident proves that the Apple smartphone is a tough cookie!
