It's not every day that a cashier becomes famous just for doing their job. But that's exactly what happened to a young man named Alex, who works at Target and became a meme and trending topic overnight. It all started with this one photo of Alex bagging items at Target.

Twitter user @auscalum tweeted the photo on Nov 2, although she later claimed she didn't take the photo herself. In less than 24 hours, Alex from Target became a viral sensation with over 1 million tweets about him so far.

How did one picture inspire such fervor? Basically, he's cute. When it comes to the Internet (and teenage girls), there doesn't need to be another reason.

Alex's Twitter account has been identified, although there are multiple imposter accounts already. He now has over 300,000 followers, but he seems to be adjusting well to his newfound fame.

While strange and inexplicable, this meme truly exemplifies the power of the Internet. You can become famous without doing anything unusual. Alex from Target will most likely be forgotten within a week, but maybe he can get a promotion deal out of it.
