Sony is reportedly rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to its Xperia Z3+ (launched as the Xperia Z4 in some markets) and the Xperia Z3+ Dual.
When it comes to delivering Android updates in a timely manner, Sony wants to be among the smartphone makers praised for their quick updates. The company started pushing Android Nougat to its latest smartphones a while back, and it just moved to the older Xperia Z5 series with the upgrade.
According to a new report from the Xperia Blog, the same Android 7.0 Nougat update that reached the Xperia Z5 range is now rolling out to the Xperia Z3+ line as well.
Sony Xperia Z3+ Nougat Update: What To Expect
It's worth pointing out here that although we're talking about the same build for both the Xperia Z5 and the Xperia Z3+ series, some features may not be identical because the hardware differs.
Some minor features such as manual controls for the camera, for instance, are reportedly absent from the Xperia Z3+ series update. At the same time, the update for the Xperia Z3+ smartphones apparently leaves the interface mainly unchanged, whereas the update for the Z5 series brings a new lock screen and icons borrowed from the latest Xperia X series.
That said, the build number for the new Android 7.0 Nougat update reaching the Xperia Z4, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z3+ dual is 32.3.A.0.372 and should bring mostly similar experience as on the Xperia Z5 line.
Xperia Z3+ Update Features
The latest update for the Xperia Z3+ line brings some new features from Sony, such as new controls for the front camera, Google Now integration in the Xperia Home app, and some battery and performance optimizations.
Android goodies, meanwhile, include all of the top Android Nougat features that Google included in the OS version, including multi-window mode, enhanced quick settings, improved notifications, Instant Apps, a better System UI tuner, and more.
The update also includes the Android security patch for December, but it remains unclear just when Sony plans to release the January security update for its Xperia Z3+ line.
The baseband firmware remains unchanged, which indicates that the update doesn't bring any major improvements in terms of signal or data speeds. Nevertheless, some minor networks improvements could be in the mix.
Sony has just started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat, so it might take a bit for all devices in the Xperia Z3+ line to get the update. No details are available yet regarding when the update will reach carrier versions of the smartphones.
The Xperia Blog says it will include FTF links for the update as soon as they become available. Keep in mind that the Xperia Blog is not the official blog for Sony mobile devices and is not affiliated with Sony, but it has a great track record for providing accurate information regarding Xperia devices, updates and other news.
