Rumor has it that Apple may be looking to offer a battery replacement program not only for affected and eligible units of the iPhone 6s, but also for the iPhone 6.
Japan-based website Macotakara was the first to suspect that an iPhone 6 battery replacement plan was in the works.
The publication shared that the battery exchange program from Apple could also be extended to the iPhone 6 users as well. The users of iPhone 6 had supposedly revealed that they too were experiencing the unexpected shutdown issues in their smartphones.
However, the publication did not share any further details on the alleged battery exchange program for the iPhone 6. Its assertions merely hinged on speculations and not any actual reason.
Apple has come forward and denied the rumors that a battery exchange program for the iPhone 6 is on the cards.
"We constantly evaluate service statistics," stated a source from Apple to AppleInsider. "There are no plans or grounds for a wide iPhone 6 battery exchange program at this time."
The publication notes that a battery replacement program for the iPhone 6 is merely speculation as there is no justification for such replacement or faulty devices. It approached Apple retail stores to get some clarity, and all claimed to have no inkling about the supposed impending program.
iPhone 6s Battery Issue
For the uninitiated, owners of the iPhone 6s have reported that once the device's display reflects that it had 30 percent of battery remaining, the handset shuts down automatically like it would have if the battery had completely died.
Plugging the device to a socket for a few seconds gets the phone to reboot, and the display shows that it has the same amount of charge remaining when the handset suddenly shut down.
With the random shutdown issue that has cropped up in 2016 with the iPhone 6s, Apple said that it would offer a free exchange of faulty units that shut down suddenly. These units were produced between September and October 2015.
Apple has a good track record of freely offering out-of-warranty fixes for defective handsets, even when these faults are detected after years.
Apple also promised to address the iPhone 6s battery problem by rolling out a Diagnostic tool to counter the bug. The company shared that the affected iPhone 6s smartphones had been left uncovered in too much ambient air during manufacture, which led to the issue.
The safety of the iPhone has come under scrutiny due to the widespread battery problems. Apple has even acknowledged the iPhone 6s issue to the China Consumers Association after the latter issued the company a notice.
It is not yet clear whether users of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s are suffering from the same fault in their phone batteries. If they are, Apple may have to increase the number of devices that will be brought under its battery replacement program.
