AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Now Getting December Security Patch

AT&T is rolling out an update for the Galaxy S6 Active devices, which brings the December security patch from Google.

The update is over-the-air and has the build number MMB29K.G890AUCS5CPK4. The changelog from AT&T reveals that the security update weighs at 14.1 MB.

The changelog, however, does not reveal if any other bugs have been fixed by the December patch. It merely says "Android device security updates" in the "what's new" section.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active

The Galaxy S6 Active is the rugged version of the Samsung Galaxy S6. The Android-powered handset initially got released in the United States by the company on June 2015 in several colors, such as, Camo-White, Camo-Blue, and gray. At the time of launch, the smartphone came preloaded with Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Galaxy S6 Active was meant for consumers who led active lives with tough, demanding outdoor jobs.

The smartphone has a rugged design and is dustproof as well as water resistant. These aspects add another level of durability along with the other features on offer. Its adaptive screen automatically adjusts brightness and contrast levels to give users a perfect display even if they are out in harsh sunlight.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Specs

The Galaxy S6 Active has dimensions of 5.78 x 2.89 x 0.34 inches. The smartphone sports a 5.1-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The Galaxy S6 Active is fueled by a powerful Exynos 7420 octa-core 64-bit processor and has 3 GB of RAM.

The handset offers 32 GB of on-board storage capacity. The Galaxy S6 Active's camera capabilities include a 16-megapixel rear-facing shooter and 5-megapixel selfie snapper. The Galaxy S6 Active comes in two storage variants of 32 GB and 64 GB.

The Galaxy S6 Active is powered by a 3,500 mAh battery, which is capable of being charged wirelessly. The device supports talk time of 24 hours on a single charge.

Other features included in the device are Bluetooth 4.1, a 3.5 mm stereo jack, Samsung Pay, and most importantly, the Activity Zone. The Activity Zone button located on smartphone's side features a compass, flashlight, stopwatch, weather, and more.

The Update

The update, which was released on Jan. 12, is only applicable for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active G890A model. The previous version required for this update is G890AUCU5CPK3 as listed in the changelog. The security patch level (SPL) reads Dec. 1, 2016.

Users can breathe easy, as the security patch is finally out. However, the OTA rollouts may take a little longer, as updates are usually incremental.
