Verizon led the charge in the wireless industry in the context of TV advertising spending in December 2016.
The U.S. network operator spent a whopping $91 million on TV ads, with the top advert from the carrier - which featured quadruplets - costing it nearly $20 million for airing.
Wireless Industry TV Advertising
Per a data analysis of the wireless industry's advert spends conducted by iSpot.tv and FierceWireless, December saw nearly 20 wireless companies advertise their products on national TV.
These companies together accounted for 114 ad spots, which cost $291 million in total for their airing. The spots were aired for a total of 55,446 times.
Top Spenders
The top five spenders in the wireless industry during December 2016 are as follows:

4. Sprint
5. MetroPCS
Verizon, which took the top spot, accounted for 31.4 percent of advertisements being aired on television. The top advertisement that Verizon created was the "Quadruplets: Samsung Galaxy" and cost the company $19.6 million to air.
It featured the Google Pixel with no data overages, as well as advertised Verizon's four-line plan that offers 20 GB of shared data. It had 21 TV spots and ran 12,732 times.
Verizon is known for its explicit commercials that tend to catch the attention of consumers because of their unique way of promoting.
The networks that aired the advertisements of Verizon were CBS, Fox, and NBC, to mention a few. The spots appeared mostly on NFL Football, NBA Basketball, and College Football telecasts. AT&T followed as the second biggest TV ad spender. It spent $46.5 million on 18 adverts, which were viewed nearly 7,701 times. The carrier's ads were shown in ESPN, ABC, and NBC.
Per reports, AT&T's most popular ad was "You Too." The carrier spent an estimated $17.3 million to make this ad, which showed a customer walking into a door of an AT&T store while picking up an iPhone 7.
Even T-Mobile caught up with the competition, becoming the third largest television commercial spender in December 2016 with $44.3 million in ad expenses. The carrier spent this money on 14 TV spots. The advertisements ran for about 8,463 times on College Football, Law and Order, and NFL Football.
T-Mobile's advertisement depicted how a family comprising four members could avail of an $800 prepaid gift card by opting for the brand's new collection of smartphones.
