LeEco was launched in the U.S. in October 2016 and, from then, it began selling its consumer electronic products, such as smartphones and TVs, through its e-commerce website, the LeMall.
The company also started selling its line of smartphones on Amazon and Best Buy late last year, and now it appears that Target will also begin offering the LeEco smartphones.
The company's name — LeEco — might mislead you to believe that it is a French company, but it is not. It is a Chinese company, with the "Le" in its name literally meaning "happiness" in Mandarin. The founder of LeEco, Jia Yueting, is China's 30th richest person.
The LeEco Ecosystem
Chinese tech companies have made their presence felt in recent years, as manifested by the strong showing of smartphone manufacturing companies Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo as well as the e-commerce site Alibaba. LeEco is now attempting to get a share of the market by branching out into a variety of consumer electronics products.
And what a plethora of products it is. Outside of China, LeEco's claim to fame is its acquisition of the American TV manufacturing company Vizio for $2 billion. The company is also known for its involvement in the manufacture of electric cars. It has launched its own electric car in LeSee, and has invested a significant amount of seed money in Faraday Future and Lucid Motors. The company also launched two Android-powered smart bikes at CES 2017.
LeEco also has its presence in the virtual reality space with its ExploreVR headset. The Chinese company is also involved in film production with its Le Vision business unit, which is producing a Matt Damon film titled The Great Wall.
Features Of Le Pro3 And Le S3
LeEco is also known for its line of smartphones. The company's current flagship is called the Le Pro3, while its more affordable version is the Le S3. Both are now available for purchase at Target's online store. The two phones have a 5.5-inch full HD display, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
Although the two phones are similar in terms of design, they are different under the hood. The Le Pro3 has the better specs with its Snapdragon 821 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the Le S3 is powered by a Snapdragon 652 processor, has 3 GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. The Le Pro3 costs $399.99 while the Le S3 is available for $249.99 at Target.
