The internet is a strange beast. Moments after witnessing an exciting game seven of the World Series, which saw the San Francisco Giants take the crown from the Kansas City Royals, social media users quickly flocked to a new hashtag of interest: Chevy Guy.
Who is Chevy Guy? He's a Chevrolet sales and marketing executive by the name of Rikk Wilde who presented San Francisco Giants MVP, Madison Bumgarner, with a new Chevy truck for his performance after the game. By present, I mean stumble over the words he had written via notecard in what is sure to be remembered as one of the most awkward national television appearances in recent memory. Watch it below, but be warned: you will cringe.
Obviously the pressure of a national audience got to the guy, so it's hard not to feel bad for him. That being said, let's go ahead and accept that there is a new meme in the making with his facepalm worthy "Technology and stuff" line. Maybe it was written on his card?
Bumgarner doesn't seem very excited about his new truck sitting out on the baseball field. That's probably because he knows Wilde drove the truck to the stadium himself, especially after Wilde casually pulls the keys to the brand new car out of his own pocket like a valet parker. Just think of how much pain Wilde would have been spared if all he had to say was "On behalf of Major League Baseball sponsor Chevrolet, I'm proud to present you with a new 2015 Chevy truck." That's it. Think of how simple that would be.
But no. Instead, he had to go on and on about Chevy and all that technology junk. As a result this was likely Wilde's first, and now last, appearance on national television. That's a darn shame. We could all use some help trying to figure out this technology stuff.
